The train was in Providence Station this weekend so I spent about an hour checking things out. The units were made by Brookville Locomotive, and have 2 700 HP gensets. These units are used to haul rock/debris from new tunnels and cavern being constructed underneath Grand Central terminal. Through New Mexico parts of the line is still protected by semaphore signals. Train Photography - Jamie - 09-28-2011 The westbound Chief was led by Engine 184, one of four locomotives repainted by Amtrak into one of its four "heritage" schemes to celebrate Amtrak's 40th Anniversary of service. This was the Phase IV paint scheme used by Amtrak before its current Phase V paint, shot during a station stop at Kansas City, MO.
