Relics - LCFR1620 - 09-26-2007 <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I am sure there is a story.....and I would love to hear it. I am trying to find out where the truck is and see if anything is salvagable. I will keep you up to date. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA
Mike, Thanks for finding this. As you are well aware, I have been looking for this for several years now. My uncle, grandfather and father all drove this piece. This piece is very near and dear to my heart. My heart is very heavy seeing it's condition. I have pictures of being handed through the window to my grandfather and dad when I was only a couple years old. I hope that I can actually find it and maybe see it pulled from it's demise. I would not be afraid to try and resurect the ole' girl. Thanks again, and please keep me posted. Ray Muth Relics - Guest - 09-27-2007
Found this old USA pumper on Rte 670 (Old Blue Ridge Turnpike), 600 yards north of the intersection in Syria, rural Virginia.
The USA pumper was built at the Quartermaster Depot Camp Holabird in Baltimore. It was constructed in 1936, carried USA # 5089 and was assigned to the Camp Holabird Fire Dept. The rig was equipped with a Northern 750 gpm pump and carried 150 gals of water. Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-27-2007 Here's a relic that formerly served Leicester, NC. I found it now serving as a silage truck at a local farm, thanks to a lead from the guys at Leicester Station 2. I had to wade through cow manure several inches deep to get these pictures. I've never had to change clothes after a photo trip, but I had to come home and fully change clothes before I could even go to work! The things I go through to get pictures of old relics! Leicster (NC) Fire/Rescue "X Tanker 18-2" 1983 IHC S-1954/Pierce 300/2250 Job # E-2470 Sold in 2005 Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 This one is in Burnsville, NC and is part of a 3-piece apparatus collection. The guy who owns them runs a farm tractor shop, and none of his employees really understand why he collects so many old fire trucks! Huntsville (AL) Fire Dept. "X Engine ??" 1981 ALF Century 1500/750(?) Reg. # CE-7358 Sold to Young's Tractor in 2007 Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 This is apparatus two in the 3-piece collection of Young's Tractor. Micah has a much better photo of this old gal, a delivery photo actually! Centre (AL) Fire Dept. I know nothing about this truck! If anybody knows the history behind this old gal, please please please tell me! 1977 ALF Century 1000/750(?) Reg. # CE-12-5454 X-????? Sold to Young's Tractor in 2007 Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 This truck has been bounced around so many times, it doesn't know who owns it anymore! It originally belonged to Paterson, NJ, who sold it to Estatoe, NC. Even when Estatoe merged with Spruce Pine, this truck remained in service as Engine 11, with a few tank modifications. In the past few years, it got sold to the Unimin Plant in the Red Hill community of Mitchell County, NC. Unimin used it to water down the roads to their quarry I assume. Unimin sold the truck to Roan Mountain FD in Carter County, TN. They never placed it in service, it just sat outside their station in the elements. Myself & Micah shot the truck while it was parked at Roan Mtn's station back in the summer. I was suprised to find the truck yet again the other day, now parked near Frank, NC's fire department. A contracting firm now owns it, and it was parked amongst construction equipment. Who knows what the future holds for this old Hahn, I'd love to see it go back in service at an FD! From what I understood, the truck is now sold and privately owned, the owner just hasn't showed up to get their truck yet! Jonas Ridge (NC) Fire Dept. It's one SN # away from an identical Ford C/FMC (S/N # 9013) we shot in Chattanooga, TN earlier this year. This truck is owned by Alpine Fire Restoration services in Boone, NC. I do like the paint scheme on it now! 1974 Ford C/FMC 750/750 S/N # 9014 X-??????????? (help!) Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 I found this one in Del Rio, TN parked outside their station (aka the Del Rio Vol. Fire Dept & Public Library). From a note the chief left in the glove compartment, apparently the truck won't run, he called a tow truck, and he'd be back after noon, haha. Del Rio (TN) Fire Dept. "X Engine 1" 1981 Ford C/American LaFrance Commodore 1000/1000 S/N # (none to be found!!) X-Port Byron, NY "Eng. 19-2" Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 This one is a real beauty and was parked beside the Ford C above, outside Del Rio's station. I've actually sent some pictures to a former Wesley Chapel member, who's going to share them with the guys at the annual picnic. With a little luck, I'd love to see Wesley Chapel buy it back from Del Rio and restore it to parade shape! I've heard that when in service, this truck could roll out of the bays in 4th gear! Wesley Chapel (NC) Fire Dept. "X Engine 262" 196? IHC V-196/Darley 750/750 Sold to Del Rio, TN Andrew Messer Photo Relics - Andrew2340 - 09-28-2007 And here's one hot off the press. I found this old gal today, thanks to a tip from a Valley Hill FD member. It's parked under a carport near Valley Hill's main station, beside an old BMW. I do know that its a former US Military truck, but no clue what branch or where it served. I took pictures of the ID plates if anyone wants to see them... 1942 Seagrave 80E ???/??? Post the ID plate andI just about guarantee that there'll be someone here that can trace her origins...I'd love to see someone restore her to her former glory, I've always thought that these rigs were among the prettiest rigs ever built. Silver Lake in Haymarket, off Silver Lake Road. Look it up on yahoo maps and do the satillite view, kinda looks like the area where the truck is located.
I can tell you that the location of that pumper is "not" Silver Lake in Haymarket. That location is not currently open to the public and has been closed off (locked gate) for months Relics - brob01915 - 09-30-2007
Thanks, Dave. Bob Relics - Guest - 09-30-2007 I found this baby sitting at the corner of US224 and OH SR 12 in Findlay Ohio about a block from FFD Sta #3 I know she is 1960's IH/WLF, enjoy. Relics - bcfd424 - 10-04-2007 I stumbled upon three old trucks while getting a picture of Casar's fire station earlier this week. I went down the side road beside the fire station to turn around and these three were sitting behind an old house. The first one was lettered for Kings Mountain FD Engine 284. It is a 1973 Ford C900 / Howe (I believe). Relics - bcfd424 - 10-04-2007 The next truck is a 1979 Ford C800 / 4-Guys tanker lettered for the Casar VFD. |
