Okay - It might be too far to call Sedalia a "Kansas City area" city, but there isn't a Missouri thread, as far as I can tell. So, I'll go with it.

Made the trip out to Odessa, Missouri but darn the fast developing morning thunderstorms. The prize gem is Ex: Sni Valley (Oak Grove, MO) 12-1993 #394211 Spartan Gladiator low profile Smeal 1500/300 75ft Quint. The FF member that was kind enough to pull out the apparatus was not qualified to drive it. I will grab it next time.
Odessa has four career members fire chief, fire marshal, and two captains. They work a forty hour week Monday-Friday together twenty-four hour volunteer firemen and fire officers. Odessa Fire Protection District provides Fire, EMS First Response, and Extraction to the City of Odessa and portions of Layette County. The City of Odessa EMS operates a twenty four hour career ambulance housed at the old fire house that also serves as the Police Department. Although advantageous for both the City and Fire District they have not reached an agreement that would allow the fire district to operate the ambulance. They have a modern fleet consisting of two engines, one quint, two tankers, and three brush buggies.

Richmond, MO has a population of 6,000. Richmond Fire Department is a municipal fire department consist of twelve career and nineteen part time firemen. Two career members consisting of a Captain and Engineer are assigned to one of three twenty-four hour shifts. They have one part-time firemen working MWF. They also increase staffing at night with two additional part-time firemen. The Fire Chief and Assistant Chief work a standard 40hr work week. They operate from one two story fire house with active fire poles. They provide the City of Richmond and Richmond Rural Fire Protection District totaling 169 square miles with fire and extracation. They only respond to life threatening medical alarms. The Rural Fire Protection District creation and taxing vote was passed last year. Prior to the taxing vote Richmond Rural Fire Association subscriptions were sold annually to residents outside the city limits. This practice is still very common in Missouri.
