RE: Train Photography - aohunt - 07-25-2026 On April 11, 2025, before CN's final takeover of Iowa Northern property, I managed a few shots of IANR's northbound CRWA11 as they doubled their train together at Cedar Rapids. The Waterloo to Cedar Rapids and return job has always been at night, but on this day the train was late getting out of Crandic's yard to head north. CN 8800-series SD70s had started to show up by this time but some IANR power was still running on home rails. This location on the north side of Cedar Rapids is one of the boat ramps for the adjacent Cedar River, and Cedar Rapids Fire Department was conducting swift water rescue training this day. Now and then I can combine my hobbies of railroad and fire apparatus photography! As IANR 3803 pulls by the "boat ramp" crossing, CRFD Engine 3 is parked. Engine 3 has since been replaced by a 2025 Pierce aerial. As CRWA switched across the road crossing, Rescue 1, Engine 9, Engine 1, Engine 3 and several other apparatus were watching.
