Eric from what I was told our Historical Society would only allow the bays to be widened if the construction company took out the old brick and replaced the same brick back in a widened fashion. I tend to side with the Historical Society's when it comes to renovating firehouses because if it wasn't for them I think there would be a lot of single story, plain, no character having firehouses in the country. The city would do what ever was cheap and that would mean tearing down the firehouse and rebuilding some terrible mess in its place.

I tend to agree Roy, our problem with the door's is they are arched with ornate poured casting's that would have too be removed before you can even get to the brick's.........

They just did Firehouses on my job, to accommodate the Higher Truck Co's now coming in, I have yet to see really how they did it, but heard it was a good job. Will try for a pic.

Yes, Rescue Squad 4 was with E31. They were closed when E3.T1 were closed. And have never been put back in service. They have been placed back if an event or a major incident come up,but other than that Nada!! The Rube had said that he wanted to place both T1 & RS4 back in service but you know that story!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Shrug' />

You could also note that E3's quarters still says "Truck Co 1" on the front. E2/RS1 also had "Truck Co 1" on the exterior for a while, no idea who took it down...

Yeah I remembered after I had posted that. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' /> And IDK about the T1 on E2/RS1. They might had taken it down when they redid the bay doors. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Shrug' />

The date that I keep hearing is October 15th. It sounds like they are dead set on that date too.

Yes they are going to put poles back in thankfully. There are 3 pole holes already cut out with the pole gates mounted.

I did hear about a disturbing trend in new firehouses where they are putting slides instead of poles. We obviously aren't getting them, but I would love to see how they look for a good laugh.

As part of the door widening process the I beam support braces actually go through the building and rest on the floor of the Engine and Truck Officer's dorm room.

This is the view of the bay doors being blocked off while the widening process takes place. Soon the newly fabricated bi-fold doors will be delivered and installed.

The watch desk is going to be built in the middle of the bays, the raised concrete slab is already there.

Roy,

How about some pics of The Dime's Temporary home. I know it is a garage, But would like to see what u guys did with it!! I know E20 when they were Trailer Trash had the trailer so that u could do things.

District of Columbia Firehouses - DCpsychwardFD - 08-19-2010

dcfdtech,

The temporary house is pretty tiny. We have 2 garage bays and one room that has been divided into 2 parts. The sleeping half and the sitting, eating, studying, laughing, joking, and shenanigans half. There is no watch desk, but there is a desk with a computer for the house Officers to conduct thier daily business.

Located at the Appleby building at Gallaudet University at 6th St and Florida Avenue NE.
