The top picture is of the former E-13 quarters. The second picture was never a fire station.. It just has the appearance of one. Even though the RFD is primarily an all career Dept. and although the companies really exist only in name the city never removed the company names from the buildings. Our new fire station which is in the bidding stage and will house E 14 and E-5 will be called the Southwest Station. That will result in the closing of the old Liberty and Oakbrook fire stations.
DepChiefNick, Did get all the existing Reading stations then? So Liberty is currently active, and the E-13 station is closed? What was the "name" for E-13 station? Also, Do I have the information correct for the Reading FD EMS station, and what was that building previously? Questions, questions, questions.

I am originally from Lebanon, but never really spent any time around the Reading area, shame on me! My Neice got married in the downpours of Hanna, under a tent at the Villa on Saturday and I had already decided I was gonna stay overnight, especially since they where calling for beautiful weather Sunday. So I shot a lot of stations, plus a couple rigs that I posted over on my apparatus thread.

PA Fire stations - FM291 - 09-15-2008

You missed E14 at Park and Noble or "Oakbrook", and R1/T1 at Plum and Franklin "Friendship/Reading Hose".

Liberty is still active.

E13 moved from 10th and Spruce to E1 quarters a few years back. The picture you have is E13 former quarters at 15th and Muhlenberg, closed years ago. E13 company name was the Union.

Reading Fire EMS station was used by the private EMS companies when it was here. Up to '88 it was the Juniors/E2

Dave,

You are correct that Ambridge is in Beaver County. It looks you were at Engine 3 at about the only time to get pictures at the station. It is pretty tight around there with cars. The City Shops were up the street about 10 blocks.

PA Fire stations - Guest - 09-15-2008

that figures. If I only knew.....

If we had stuck around the strip longer, I might have tried to get a shot of E3's reserve Pierce that had that day. It appeared that there is a PD rig in the far right bay, but I didn't stop to ask questions...

Dave,

I'm not sure what that rig in the last bay is. Its appears to be one of the region 13 Decon rigs that the city purchased, but I'll have to find out next time I'm out. St. 3 got one of the newest KME engines.

At the end of August 2008 a piece of WTC steel was transported from NYC to the Shanksville, PA Vol Fire Department where it was installed as a permanent memorial. Shanksville, itself, has a population of 250. In excess of 500 firerman motorcyclists met before dawn at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn NY and then accompanied the cross across 311 miles of NJ and PA.

Here are some pictures of the SVFD fire house, the unveiling, the FDNY detatchment and the firemen who made the ride.

I am way behind in checking Firepics.net and am justing viewing these on Monday, Oct. 27. Last Thursday, Oct. 23, we came home through Penn Forest Township on PA Route 903 about 3 pm after spending 3 1/2 hours at KME in Nesquehoning. I do remember this firehouse. You didn't shoot the pic that day, did you? The weather was similar. The reason we went that way was because the guys wanted to stop at the Mount Airy Lodge Casino to play some slots.

A Surprising note, almost all the old stations in this twp still have the house siren atop the building. The Alden station, someone had gone as far as tarping the siren, I don't know why.
