Take two companies away from District 12, E52/L29 are now in District 8.

That makes District 8 E16 E18 E20 E52 Fire Brigade and L06 L29

District 12 still picked up 2 more companies than it previously had and two more firehouses, and a lot more actual land area compared to what they gave up.
Correct, I forgot that E52/L29 are now over in District 8.

Boston Fire Department - yelrowekim - 07-22-2009

You have remember that the L 7 before the Pierce (with the 4 door cab) was Ladder 10.. and the 2 door former L 7 was still out and about as a spare not that long ago.. it looked very tired last time I saw it..

Boston Fire Department - edburke - 07-31-2009

As of today, Ladder 15 is in vehicle 219 (which has an inked ST-10 under it), former ladder 7, former-former Ladder 10 and Ladder 26 is running former Ladder 18 (didn't get a number off it)

Boston Fire Department - SOlsonBFDL14 - 07-31-2009

Ladder 26's 2009 E\-One 110' Rearmount is now at Greenwood. It has "In Memory of Lt. Kevin M. Kelley" on top of the ladderboards, a Maltese Cross with "In Loving Memory of Lt. Kevin M. Kelley 242" on the sides between the front and rear doors on either side and "LAD26DER" on the front bumper and "Huntington Ave Express" on top of the cab on both sides. I was told the dedication will be held sometime next month and it will be placed in service then.

MASSFIRETRUCKS.COM has pics of the new Ladder 26 along with pics of the Ladderboards and Maltese cross. It looks really nice

Did Boston return to what I would call E\-One Red. I know with the Pierce's they were using the brighter red that was delivered on the 1950's Mack B models that had the full bodys and ladder racks. Thanks for the help.

Stay Safe, Rick

Boston Fire Department - SOlsonBFDL14 - 08-02-2009

Yes, the E\-One's are darker then the Pierce's. Retired Commissioner Christian preferred the brighter color, Commissioner Fraser does not.

I know this replace's the totalled ladder from the sad crash. Was this truck to go to some other other company, and was re-directed to 26's or was this ordered post crash as a replacement?

It was re-directed. Ladder 26 was NOT due to receive a new truck from this order, prior to the accident. The next three pieces are/were supposed to go to Ladder 25, Ladder 6 and Ladder 14.

Boston Fire Department - KDWMAEMT - 08-02-2009

Has the city given the ok or the funds to purchase any new apparatus this fiscal year?

Boston Fire Department - SOlsonBFDL14 - 08-03-2009

Steve McDonald, spokesman for the Boston Fire Department (Public Information Officer), was quoted in an article in the Allston-Brighton TAB about the disgraceful condition of Engine Company 51's quarters that we are scheduled to receive 5 new pieces before the end of the year. I was under the impression is was 3 trucks & 2 engines or 1 engine & 1 rescue.
Couple of things.....why would the cab look bad on the truck? E\-One hasn't changed their body design, so it was just a matter of putting an older cab on it. This is Ladder 17, but was identical to Ladder 16, which is the rig the cab came off of. When Weymouth bought it from Boston, they added the enclosed cab.

As far as not removing the "Ladder" lettering, you have to realize that's an EXPENSIVE gold-leaf lettering job. It's not as simple as using 3M adhesive deactivator and a heat gun. That would have to be sanded, primed, color matched and decaled.....probably another $1000 to the cost. It's a quick fix that's much better than just leaving them in a spare, and, in a change for Boston, was a fiscally smart move.

In a perfect world, the apparatus would have been replaced long ago, but the capital improvements budget is limited (I believe $3M), and you replace what you can, where you can. When EMS takes over the FD, vehicles will be replaced on a much better schedule. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/feedtroll.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Feedtroll' />
Not to get off topic, but this paticular truck (Ex BFD L-17) is currently running as North Hampton, NH's 36-Ladder-1 and still carries alot of her BFD charecter to her.

How do the drivers like the All-Steer on the engines? It just seems like it would turn on a dime and give you change, but only if it works properly...

Terry

Boston Fire Department - Guest - 08-04-2009

Yea they dont use the feature on any of the trucks that have them...I dont recall if there was an incident deciding this or it was just a no go from the start maybe someone else can fill in that hole, but they do not use the all steer on the rigs.

I know that Pierce doesn't offer that option any more. I think that they had to many problems with it. I believe that Framingham FD had/has a Quantum rear mount were the system malfunctioned while they were going down the road and it hit a car or two.

Natick had a 2002 Pierce Quantum rear mount ladder truck that was sent back with that type of steering.

Boston Fire Department - Ladder 68 - 08-04-2009

And I think it (Natick's rig) was re-sold to another department...

Corrections welcome.
