The FY2012-13 Budget for the City of Los Angeles see's about 36 million restored to the LAFD, In addtion the budget calls for the reopening of 1 Engine company in the West San Fernando Valley, Re opening of Nine EMS Captain's, 6 BLS Rescue's that will be manned for 12 hours.

This is one of the 1st few major cities that has announced the restoration of funds to FD budgets. That's great news. Although it's not back to where it was, it's certainly a start. I hope LA continues to turn it around.

The LAFD has placed into service a 3rd AgustaWestland AW139 which will be assigned as Fire 2. The Air Ops staff is hoping to keep Old Fire 2 the Bell as a reserve copter.

I take it some or all of the Seagrave's were retrofitted with rollup compartment doors? I'm pretty sure they weren't bought that way...

The 2003 through the 2006 Seagraves were built with the rollup doors.

The 03 Seagraves was when the department started going with roll up doors and a enclosed ladder compartment.

LAFD has always done such an awesome job maintaining their rigs. I know the good climate helps, but this is a superbusy department and that rig looks like it just rolled out the door. Just incredible.

This is more of a general question, but very fitting for LAFD. How do they keep the aluminum wheels in such good shape? We have a relatively new ladder and the aluminum is already looking tarnished.

My wagon in DC we would polish them at least twice a month. But when the Chief stripped all of the company pride from the apparatus all most everyone stopped washing them.

Alchoa coats the wheels with what they call dura brite. All you have to do is rinse with soap and water and they keep their luster. Our pumpers at work have this and it keeps the wheels looking good.
