Quote:Last I checked Pierce doesn't sell just the cab do they?

It also looks to have a shadow on the nose above the pierce emblem of another companies number. Are you sure this wasn't a bone yard rig's cab?
When you buy as many rigs as LAFD trust me they will sell you what ever you want.

I could be wrong but I remember hearing that plug buggies were used up in the hill areas so that the buggy could carry / stretch supply line up the long driveways where access was limited.

This plug buggy carries an Air Kwik system.

Quote:Dunno for sure, but if they still have the same shop # on the rig, I assume they got a new cab from Pierce.  If they had gotten a whole new rig, it would have had a brand new shop #, I would think.
What I meant was Pierce did the refurb versus LAFD shops, not a whole new rig.

Probably the LAFD Shops did the refurb as E60 was about 4 years old at the time of the sink hole incident.

Only the cab was refurbished and I believe it was Pierce that did the work.

I wonder if they will stick with ALF for their aerials??

From what I have been told from sources is that LA city will tag on to LaCo. Pumper and TDA contract.

I assume, though that LAFD will still only buy dry TDA's and not quints like L.A.Co.F.D.?

LAFD gave the tiller quint idea a try and didn't like it,

KME has been awarded a contract from the LAFD to build 11 Pumpers.

Does L.A.Co.FD have a TDA contract with anyone besides KME?

I highly doubt, that at this point in the company's questionable lifespan, that ALF would be able to handle such a large contract, much less provide warranty support. They had great difficulty even finishing out their last order to complete their contract for LAFD, and had many other issues.

With a number of manufacturers bulding tillers nowadays and more planning to enter, the market is much more competitive. KME probaly could offer the best price and service given the LACoFD contract due to a strong dominating presence in the area, plus LAFD already has KME's which is good for fleet continuity.

Although I love KME, I would love to see Seagrave bid on the contract.
