Seattle Firehouses - Bryce - 07-05-2012
The Rescue will soon be moving into this double length temporary tent, located at Airport Way South, and South Adams Street, the former site of the Sonny Jim Peanut Butter Plant, as Station 14 under goes an extensive seismic upgrade and apparatus bay expansion. Bob Lukas Photo
Ironically enough there have been two multiple alarm fires at the old Sunny Jim plant over the years. I'm pretty sure one of them wound up on the cover of Firehouse Magazine. Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 08-16-2012 Here is a shot of Station 14 taken the day (8-13-12) before their move to temporary quarters on Airport Way. Ladder 7 was assigned a spare rig that day. Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 08-19-2012
Station 6 is going to look real sharp at night with all of the glass around the apparatus bays! Great looking station.
Yes. I looking forward to doing a night shot with the lights on and the doors open. Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 09-02-2012 Demolition began this week on the site of Engine 9's old station Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 09-02-2012 The buildings at Engine 20's new station site have finally been boarded up and are ready to be flattened. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 01-30-2013 Engine 34 has moved into temporary quarters while their station under goes a seismic upgrade, plus an addition resizing for improved living spaces. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 01-30-2013 And on the top of Queen Ann Hill, Engine 8 and Ladder 6 have their temporary quarters in place, occupying living space set up in the former high school gym area. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 01-30-2013 Engine 6 and Ladder 3 have moved into their new quarters on Martin Luther King Way and Jackson Street. An open house is scheduled in March. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - Guest - 01-30-2013 What will happen to the old classic Station 6? Please tell me they won't tear it down! The Seattle Landmarks Board designated the station as a landmark in 2005. SFD will more than likely put it up for sale like they did with old station 38 and 37. Here is a link to a realty ad for station 38. http://www.neseattlerealestate.com/tag/fire-station-38/ Seattle Firehouses - DaveYoung - 02-01-2013 Quote:Looking sharp! Love that stained glass above the bay doors! Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 02-03-2013 Here's a pic of station 6 before the move date. You can see that the artist incorporated a hint of the lightening bolt theme into the mural for the new station. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 02-03-2013 Back to the new construction, station 9 progress, showing most of the steel is now up. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - rlukas1 - 02-03-2013 Station 14 work is progressing. A newly constructed, drive through bay, set back from the front facade will house the Rescue. The next bay formally assigned to the spare Rescue 80, will be widened and extended deep inside, after a major beam is reconfigured. This bay will be able to then support a tractor drawn aerial truck. The next adjacent bay that housed ladder 7, will be converted for equipment storage. The two bays located on the south side of the station will remain the same size as far as I know, and house Aid14 and the spare rescue rig. Bob Lukas Photo Seattle Firehouses - Guest - 02-03-2013 Quote: Seattle Firehouses - Bryce - 02-04-2013 Station 14 looks great. Maybe now that they've got a long enough bay they can rip off Portland, buy a tractor drawn rescue, and dump Ladder 7 altogether. Currently there is one centrally located pole in the station and I haven't heard of any plans to eliminate it. |
