Pittsburg, Kansas Fire Department Fire House 1 retired.

This fire house made its last alarm one week ago. It was replaced by a new state of the art two story fire house with fire poles outside of the downtown area of Pittsburg. This fire house opened in 1961 in the pictured renovated building. The building has an intresting history. It started life as the city steam generator station for heat in the downtown buildings. In 1960 it was decommissioned and convered to the Fire and Police Station. The two fire poles were removed from the orginal horse drawn fire house and moved into this building. It has very tight quarters as you can see in the photos. One fire pole is curved from a fire horse leaning on it at one time.

Pittsburg has three fire houses. Now staffing one squad, two quints 55ft, 75ft, one engine, and one tower ladder 85ft.

Hi Ted, I am sorry I do not have any photos of Ft. Riley. I will be in Manhattan for K-State football later this year so, I might be able to make it over to Junction City for photos.

Stay Safe, Rick

Fort Scott, Kansas Retired Fire House One early 1900's-1993

Fort Scott is fully career four firemen perday. With now two fire houses as of March 2009. This fire house was replaced in 1993 when the current ladder truck was purchased. The new ladder fit however the chief at the time told the city it would not and applied for a FDA Rural Land Grant. They won the grant and the current fire house on S. National was built.

When built it was a single bay fire house.
