Montgomery County MD - Fire28 - 07-05-2007

And down back was this E22. Apparently Certain Stations in Mont County have Shops below them that do reapirs. If someone could explain how that works(who goes to where, and WHERE do you keep reserves?)

Montgomery County MD - Fire28 - 07-05-2007

Finally I headed back towards home with 1 last stop at Station 12.

Here are some Montgomery County MD. photos taken by me in the early 1990's; the 1st rig is 1 of the most impressive I ever saw in "Montco": The 1973 Mack CF 75' scope that was Rockville VFD Tower 23 for many years, and then ran in reserve/spare service for a few years more. Since leaving RVFD, the rig has had an extensive rehab, and is now on its 3rd owner ( co. in PA.)

This photo was taken in the Montgomery Village Mall parking lot in Gaithersburg - on the front of the rig is a sticker saying "Tower 8" where the Rockville lettering is. This was another of the CF's temporary gigs, subbing for less-reliable rigs.

It occurs to me that this photo may have been taken about the same time as the previous post, which figures considering the mechanical reliability of this sled, this 1986 Spartan/76 Pierce/85' LTI tower unfortunately spent considerable time in various shops, this is the home shop at Gaithersburg-Wash. Grove FD Sta.8 in Montgomery Village.

It would be rebuilt again in the mid-90's and last a few more years.

1 more shot of Rockville's 73 Aerialscope, after RVFD had it rehabed/repainted by A-1 Truck of Hagerstown, Md., in 1992.

This truck later ended up on its side then sold on ebay.

Each individual corporation had the option to provide maintenance for their apparatus. Silver Springs uses Station 16 as their maintenance facility they have a mechanic that was orginally paid for through their budget. The apparatus you photographed at Station 16 belonged to Takoma Park Station 2 which is a single station and may use Silver Springs as their maintenance facility. Other facilities are located at Station 6 Bethesda, Station 21 Kensington, and Station 8 Gaithersburg which also provides maintenance for Germantown Station 29. Rockville uses Station 3 and normally stores reserve apparatus there or Station 33 (Potomac). Since the County has started providing funding and equipment you may see apparatus being repaired at their equipment facilities located in and around Rockville, one on Seven Locks Road near Wooten Parkway and another located along Crabbs Branch Road between Redland Road and Shady Grove Road. Their are other facilities that may now be providing repairs for fire equipment. As for reserves each corporation normally has several reserve units that may be parked at any of their stations. Currently many reserve units are running front line due to the age of the fleet. 37 new pumpers are on order as well as up to 8 aerial units and several heavy rescue squads along with replacement ambulances and medic units. The county is in flex at this time as far as maintenance facilities are concerned, using the corporations existing facilities while they tackle the need for a fire equipment repair center.

I saw her on a apartment fire in Gaithersburg buried to the running boards, the boom was up and flowing water.

Thanks, Tillerman!

Hey Paul, I know the story and have the pic, but I was trying to be "sensitive". BTW, what was the winning bid on e-bay for "1 tower ladder, slightly bent"? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

Speaking of towers, Montgomery Co. got 5 identical 1989 Sutphen 95' towers which were distributed around the county,Rockville sta.23 got this one, which I shot at 1 of the many shopping centers on Rockville Pike. I am not certain if any of them are left in service.

Also at Sta.23 during the early 90's was this 1983 Seagrave HB/92 A-1 Truck 1000/750, which was originally Rockville E-331, and after replacement in 1993 at Sta.23, would go to Rockville E-311.
