"The Mack L series were heavy-duty trucks produced from 1940 to 1956...." Maryland photo's - PFDEng1 - 12-30-2010
I got this from the Mack website....... "The Mack L series were heavy-duty trucks produced from 1940 to 1956...."
Green Haven, MD T145 1951 Mack LS85 75' 750/150 Riverdale sold it to Green Haven 1971. cross referenced from several sources old Anne Arundel County and Prince Georges County apparatus rosters Prince Georges County history book "Triumph and Tradition" Maryland photo's - chuga - 12-30-2010
Hillandale had twins of this engine. They were the first auto Trans in the area I was told.
We also had a 1967 Seagrave TDA that was an automatic. The 1971's were so powerful, the mechanic had a supply of axles in his shop. We would snap them off regularly. Chuga Maryland photo's - ATFagent - 12-30-2010
Truck 2 was delivered with the dual headlights side by side. In the posted photo your can see the front bumper is not a standard Seagrave bumper, this was replaced after an accident that included the headlight modifications. This unit had an unfortunate reputation, and late in its career while in the county reserve fleet was nicknamed the "widow maker".
Here is the widow maker as Truck 10 circa 1984. Note the paint scheme was changed since PGFD purchased the vehicle and was used as a reserve. Also note the headlights are horizontal. Photograph was taken at Laurel while they held the county convention. And The Pirsch from Branchville, they still own it.
Here is the Seagrave as RE-8 circa 1983 serving as Engine Company 1. Sorry for cutting off the nose and the poor quality.
