This is the one where Asst.Chief Donald "Hawk" Bowen was killed in a LODD when it flipped. So sad Hawk was a GREAT person and a Super Firefighter!!

Negative. That is one of five 1962 Ward LaFrance Firebrand 750/200 pumpers delivered to DC. They were built as open-cab rigs and the roofs were added later on. I'm not quite sure on the International grille, but all five had it.

I have never gotten a good explanation of this rig in all my visits to Boonsboro, the body builder is a real mystery.

RE-BODIED AND 4-DOORED in 1987 by MT. Aetna Body Works of Hagerstown.

Stayed in county reserve into the late 1990's, a unique rig.

Thanks Scott, I find myself getting nostalgic for the Montgomery County of the 1980's,LOL

Now housed at the Frederick County Fire Museum (FORMER co.26 STATION) in Emmitsburg,MD.

Based on info in the Ward LaFrance book from Iconografix, they were powered by Waukesha motors, not International.

Tanker 6 1976 Diamond Reo body is a 1947 Mack 750-1000

FDNY bought-closed cab Firebrands. One was assigned to 82 Engine during Dennis Smith's time there.



Just conjecture, but if this were an IH chassis, I would think a big six like IH's 450 or 549FTV would be the powerplant.
