This past week had me in the Lynchburg and Farmville areas of Virginia. Although I did not spend much time there, I was able to visit two Volunteer Rescue Squads during a lunch break and late in the day.



The Campbell County Rescue Squad is located just outside of Lynchburg and serves both Campbell and Bedford counties.



Truck 2-1 is a 1996 Spartan/Saulsbury with serial number 295090.

A smaller crash truck at the Campbell County Rescue Squad is Truck 2-2, a 2003 Ford F550 built by M&W.

One of four ambulances kept at the main station of Campbell County Rescue Squad - Medic 2-8 is a 2007 Ford F450/Osage.

The Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad is located in Farmville, Virginia. I was able to photograph several trucks.



Rescue 1 is a 1997 Spartan/Marion.

Here is a favorite of mine....I love finding these. The Prince Edward VRS put some work into rehabbing this old ambulance several years ago. I was told it is a 1968 International Travelall.

And I will wrap up this segment with a quick visit I made to the Lucketts VFD in Loudoun County, Virginia. I was traveling to Maryland several days ago and passed this station noticing a brush truck I had not seen before. I was not able to stop but got back there today for some photos.



Lucketts has had a number of apparatus revisions during the last several years.



They received a new Loudoun County 2008 Pierce Dash engine (posted earlier) as well as one of four International 7400/4-Guys tankers (also posted earlier). The Pierce replaced a 1991 International/E-One 1250/1000 engine which is now at the Training Center. The tanker was an addition and the FD now operates two tankers.



Also just delivered is Brush 10, a 2007 GMC 3500HD/2008 CET/West Potomac. 450/200.

Here is what the new Brush 10 replaced.....a 1980 Chevrolet/Pierce 400/250 with job number E0955. It was just sold to a person in Arlington, Virginia. Lucketts puchased the Chevrolet from Lovettsville, Virginia. Lovettsville is also in Loudoun County.

I will end with this one......I have posted this in the past and have always found this engine from Lucketts unique. Rescue Engine 10 is a 2002 Spartan Mountain Star 4x4 built by Saulsbury. It has a 1500/750 with the pump in the rear compartment.

very interesting. I wonder if it had an older rehab on it. the ALF delivery list I have has L3936 sold to Covington VA as a 65' Quint with a 750GPM pump. nice shot!

I recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Washington Dulles International Airport in Loudoun/Fairfax Counties. Dulles is operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), which also operates Reagan International Airport just outside of Washington D.C. Dulles is going through some intense growth and is a very busy airport.



Just so folks know, I know there is another thread on MWAA with a variety of photographs. I wanted to keep the Virginia photos together, so I am including them here.



This was actually a somewhat last minute visit. I had been working with a contact at Dulles for quite some time to be able to visit. Because of my travel schedule and other schedule conflicts, it just was not working out. Things came together quickly this week (even though we had to postpone because of rain), and I was able to visit. I find the FD operation at Dulles very interesting because my department (Ashburn) runs mutual aide with Dulles. It is not uncommon for us to run auto accidents together on the Dulles Greenway toll road, EMS calls, and even an occasional box assignment at the airport. The airport units often runs into Loudoun County with quick access to the Sterling/Ashburn area as well as the Route 50 area into Arcola and South Riding.



Despite training and other things going on, the folks at Dulles were extremely friendly and accomodating. They took the time to show me the two stations, photograph the majority of the apparatus, and get a view of the new third station being built. My thanks to all of them. Just so you know, I am still in the process of gathering apparatus information from Dulles. I will be doing some traveling during the next several months and wanted to post the photos during the holiday weekend.



Dulles has two stations - Station 302 is a huge facility located with access to the runways and houses all of the crash trucks. In addition to the crash trucks, numerous specialty pieces, and engine, and medic units are housed at Station 302. It is located close to the Air and Space Smithsonian building. There is no access to this station without clearance, escort, etc.



Station 303 is located near the rental car area of the airport with quick access to the Dulles toll road and Dulles Greenway toll road. A rescue engine, medic, and an attack unit (that is just one of its duties) are housed at Station 303.



Finally, Station 304 is in the process of being built with a completion date estimated in September. It will be near new run ways being built at Dulles and initially house several crash trucks with plans to add additional equipment in the future. It is very close to the weather facility located on Rt. 606 in Loudoun County.

Rescue Engine 324 runs from Station 303 and is a 1999 Pierce Quantum 1500/500/40 with Pierce job number ED055.

Attack 334 is a 2001 Ford F550/Pierce 300/200 with job number 12418.



This truck has a variety of functions - it operates as the EMS supervisors vehicle, is the primary response piece in the parking garages, and is a brush unit. It has responded to Loudoun County in the past as a brush truck for outside fire calls.
