I do not think the Grafton is a Braun. No Braun arched roof. I am not knocking anyone. I thank everyone for sharing any ambo pics. The lights also look older than 2006 and the rear flip up step looks like a Road Rescue but the lower rub rails and wheel trim rings are not their standard rubber with reflective inserts. Just my .02 as always corrections welcome. Thanks for sharing the older ambos as well. Neal Craig

I don't think Grafton's website is accurate. Although the apparatus page lists this as a Braun, it is not. If you look at the "Station Tour" page there is a photo of what I guess is a newer "852" that is undoubtedly a Braun. My guess is that thry changed the wording but not the picture when the put the Braun in service

We are in Harrisburg, as my fiancee is attending the Student Nursing Association of Pennsylvania conference, I found this parked out front for tours at the Hilton Towers in downtown (don't know if it will be back tomorrow).

Yes it is indeed a Medix box on a Sprinter Van chassis. "New" trucks at GEMS are a rare treat, as the boxes are usually re-mounted several times before totally de-comissioned. 262 was purchased as a replacement for 196 which was totaled in a fatal wreck with an APD unit almost 3 years ago. Recently, the Henry Grady Foundation purchased another "New" unit, 264 on a Chevy 3500 chassis. Prior to 262 arriving in spring 07, the last "new" units were purchased in early 2003.

The Frazer was purchased in early 2007, two EMS directors ago. We were looking for a unit that would be more mechanically sound, and have a better HVAC system in the summer. The majority of our crews love the Frazer, however the Hospital board was not willing to cut the checks for more. We initially had 2 additional ones approved, then a change in admin and they were denied.

266 is the first of 10 of the Sprinters. When the hospital changed to a private/non-profit, Kaiser-Permente donated $1.5 million to the EMS dept for new vehicles and some additional equipment (new stryker stair chairs for all units, EZ-IO, and CPAP). Trying to get the most new trucks out of the $$$$, Mgmt picked the Sprinters with a box. Now that the first has arrived, our Logistics dept is having trouble finding places to store all of our equipment on the truck due to the reduced cabinet space.

It will be interesting to see how these new trucks work out, many mixed opinions. It will be several weeks before the truck goes inservice, Atl Comm has to install radios and MDT, has to be stocked, and checked off by GA-DHR as well. I'll hold my tongue until I work a shift in one.

Here is 258, one of our newest re-mounts. It was rear-ended on 12/27/08 on I-20@Langhorn while arriving onscene of an MVC. Crew was ok, the expected body aches. One passenger in the vehicle was trown from the rear seat to the front seat and was unconscious. The unit will most likely be totaled as the box is out of square now, and the chassis frame-rails are torqued.

I can understand them wanting to get the most units but if the Frazers were more cost effective in the long run... I used to work for a Sprinter dealership. All I can say is good luck. Also sold Medix for a while. If you think the rear ended module looks bad after a collision then just wait. Anyways thanks for sharing and good luck. Neal Craig, NREMTP
