Salida claims this is the oldest motorized fire apparatus in the State of Colorado.  I don't know if that's true or not, but it's really old!  They're collecting money to restore it.

Just read that Salida finally got a grant to restore this rig. It's headed to the fire museum in Estes Park for restoration.

Caught this rig outside the South Fork, Colorado Fire Station.

It's a 1980 Ford F-700 4x4/Grumman Firecat (I have no idea why they have the HOWE plate on the front).  Ford 429 Gasoline engine,

1000 GPM Waterous pump, looks like 500 gallons of water.

It seems like it's in pretty good shape and probably hasn't sat outside too long.  But, nobody was around to ask.  South Fork has a huge station that I would have loved to get a look inside.  Maybe next year...

I asked the same thing about Grumman/Howe on our old 78' tanker and the answer I got had something to do with the buyout of Howe by Grumman, whereas Grumman finished the trucks Howe already had on the line, and put their badge on it as well. Being as this one is 2 years newer, I'm not sure why it's like that.

Trav!
