Ahhh! Got me on that one, Tillerman! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_redface.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_redface' />

Today we'll feature Bethesda FD apparatus, BFD was an independent organization until the late 80's and has been all-paid since 1939. There are 3 stations to serve one of the largest unincorporated cities in Maryland.

Sta. 6 is on Wisconsin Ave. just south of the downtown district.

This 1981 Alf Century 1500/500 was actually the reserve engine by 1992.

The aerial apparatus at Sta.6 for many years was this 1983 Seagrave 100' TDA which was originally assigned to Sta.3 in Rockville.

Sta. 20 is located on Old Georgetown RD., directly beside the National Institutes of Health.

E-201 was a 1986 Seagrave 1500/750/60 that would be eventually donated to the city of Cumberland,MD.FD,in 2003.

The rig was taken OOS at the end of 2006 by Cumberland FD.

This 1967 Chev./Hahn 1000/750 engine formerly served at BFD #6, but by 1991 had been demoted to hauling air bottles at the fire academy.

I'm starting to feel bad in correcting you. "SALLY" (T6) is an 84. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_redface.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_redface' />

Station 20 will be celebrating 50 years or dedication to the Oakmount and surrounding Bethesda communities this October.

Montgomery County MD - Ladder 68 - 07-15-2007

Is "Sally" the rig that was refurbed in '97 and had a jumpseat enclosure added?

Thanks.

Yes she is, and STILL running as Truck 6. It's the oldest front line piece in Montgomery County, with over 100,000 miles. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wub' /> However it's just a door, there is no seat there.

Here she is this past winter.

So tell me Why In The world won't they buy anymore Seagraves. But they will buy Brand X <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_crazy' />

Cosgrove

I was under the impression that Truck Co. service at Station 6 had been discontinued. Clarification appreciated.

And for that matter, Tower service at Co. 20 is no linger correct?

Thanks.

The high command tells me, Seagrave doesn't build a TDA with a 500lb tip load and a pre piped water way to the tip. I know, I know why we... they need a per piped water way. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

No, we lost our new tower when it went to 8 to replace the one posted earlier. We will always have truck service at 6. We are slated to get a TDA in February <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

20, did in deed lose the tower, it went to 23 and their E\-One went to 35.

Montgomery County MD - Ladder 68 - 07-15-2007

I had the Bethesda truck companies confused. Thanks for clearing that up.

Why did they move the Pierce tower from 6 to 8 and make it a stright truck? Target hazards?

<img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Shrug' /> Straight truck? 8 has always had a tower unless it was out for rehab or work.

The 1986 Spartan/76 Pierce/85' LTI tower, was rolled and totaled.

I have 4 rosters from that era, and none of em agree; but that was sloppy research on my part...

This 1984 Seagrave 1500/500/40 ran from Silver Spring FD Sta. 19.

The truck co. at SSFD #19 was this 1984 Seagrave 4 door 100' TDA.

In 1991, driving in with a camera and taking pics of NIH apparatus was not a Homeland Security issue.

1st is their engine, a 1983 Pirsch 1250/500/40 with a 1989 Summit rehab/4 dr. This engine would later go to the District Heights VFD in Prince Georges Co.
