Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 There is a lot of apparatus between the two airports - Dulles and Reagan. If the unit number ends in an even number, it runs at Dulles. Odd number runs at Reagan. I think I can safely say I have never been to a bigger station (in terms of apparatus) than Station 302, which is near the Air and Space Smithsonian. There are 11 drive through bays - bays 1 - 6 are on the left side and house all of the Foam crash trucks and the Battalion Chief. Bays 7 - 11 operate the engine company, medic units, and specialty units. Seperating bays 1-6 and 7-11 is the living quarters, training, offices, etc. Foam 326 is a 2001 Oshkosh TI-3000 2000/3000/400 with 500 lbs of Purple K. s/n 73224. This is one of two 2001 Oshkosh crash trucks at Dulles. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Foam 336 is a 1996 Oshkosh T-3000 2000/3000/400 and 500 lbs Purple K. s/n 53109. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 The new pride and joy at Dulles is Foam 352. It is a 2008 Oshkosh 6x6 Striker 1950/3000/420. It has 1000 lbs of High-Vivid Purple K. Serial number 53109. There are numerous unique features about this truck. I found the visibility in the cab amazing, and add to that a variety of cameras and screens in the cab, you can really see a great deal. Another Oshkosh Striker is on order, however this one will have a ladder/boom. The plans (as I understand them) is that Foam 352 will move to the new Station 304 when it opens and the new Striker (on order) will run from Station 302. Foam 352 has already been dispatched into Loudoun County on a variety of calls. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Here is the other side of Foam 352. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 I really like this decal found on Foam 152 and I believe on some of the other apparatus. A very nice tribute. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Foam 356 is the Dulles reserve crash truck. I am still verifying information on this truck. What I have is a 1989 Oshkosh T-3000 1800/3170/410. Serial number 36659. I was told this will be the next crash truck to be replaced. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 The last crash foam truck at Dulles is Foam 358, a 2001 Oshkosh TI-3000 2000/3000/400 with 500 lbs P-K. Serial number 73223. Similar to Foam 326. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Finalizing the "right side" of Station 302 ( bays 1-6) is this unique Battalion Chief's vehicle. BC 302 is a 2006 Ford E350 Quigley 4x4/Odyssey. It has a 24" fiberglass transit top. BC 301 runs an identical truck at Reagan Airport. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Let's move to the "left side" of Station 302, which is bays 7-11. MWAA recently placed into service three KenWorth/Hackney tractor trailers that serve as Mass Casualty Units and a Special Ops unit. Mass Casualty Unit 362 is a 2006 KenWorth/Hackney 38'. It has equipment to treat 300 patients (150 patients on each side). There is a similar truck at Reagan Airport. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Special Ops 332 is also a 2006 KenWorth/Hackney 38'. Primary equipment carried on SO 332 is HAZMAT and Technical Rescue. Note the command area located in the back. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Technical Rescue 354 is a 1997 Chevrolet/Lynch Display Vans that is the Tunnel Rescue Unit. There is extensive underground construction occuring at Dulles as the airport expands. Before being the TR 354, this truck was the Dive unit at Reagan Airport (old 347) where it was painted white. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 The engine assigned to Station 302 is this Pierce Dash. Engine 380 is a 2004 Pierce Dash 1500/580/40 with Pierce job number 15288. The pump is in the rear. It was purchased by funds made available from the Air and Space Museum. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - davemcclung - 07-04-2008 Mike, fantastic shots as usual. I am still working on my contacts at Dulles and National for my next trip into town. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Several medic units are at Station 302. Medic 350 is this International. I am still verifying the year and body builder. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Medic 364 is the Dulles reserve medic and is a 2006 International 4300/Horton. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Here are a variety of images of Station 302. Here is the "right side", showing bays 1-6 that house the foam crash trucks and the BC. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 A straight shot of bays 1-6. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Now the "left" side - bays 7-11. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 And having to step way back to get the entire station to fit...... Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 07-04-2008 Here is the new Station 304 under construction. It is located near the new run ways also being built and is close to the weather station located on Route 606. My understanding is two ARFF units (one staffed) and future plans for an engine, ladder, and medic. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA |
