Engine12 was repainted in house by members of sta 12 and our shops. Engine 5 was sent out to I think it was PA Fire where the boom old body was removed and a new body installed. Some say the body that was placed on Engine 5 at time of refurb was a left over Hahn body. It later became RE 72. It can be seen the Baltimore City thread pumping a large field fire. Engine 11 stayed yellow and white its entire life here.
Baltimore City, MD had this 1937 Mack E pumper. The slide has SLE27 written on it. What does that mean, Hon?
SLE stood for "Second Line Engine". Basically a reserve apparatus that was fully equipped and ready to be placed in service. Many times on large incidents, off duty crews were called back to work and staffed these "second line" units. SLT was a Second Line Truck.
