Maryland City, MD had this 1959 Mack B 1000 gpm pumper that was defiled with a slime paint scheme.
I believe that this rig was originally owned by the Linthicum-Shipley Fire Co. #32 of Anne Arundel Co. The County painted it slime line and ran it at Maryland City and later at the Harmans-Dorsey Station #21 before putting it into the reserve fleet. I think this rig was resently saved from the crusher and is now in the hands of a privated collector who plans to restore it.

Funny how Seagrave used a 4-door Cincinnati cab on this rig instead of their own P-cab.

It was delivered with a Seagrave 4dr cab. Shortly after it went into service it was involved in a collision with a train, one firefighter was killed in the accident. The Cincinnati cab was a replacement for the Seagrave cab that was destroyed in the collision.

Any photos of it when it was new?

Anybody have any info of Silver Hill's open-cab Seagrave pump? It's a late-1960's vintage K-cab. Also a few questions about it: Exactly what year was it, and did it come from the factory with a Detroit Diesel? Thanks.

Chillum-Adelphi FD in Prince George's Co, MD had this beautiful 1970 Seagrave PB 1000/300 which ran as both Eng 441 and Eng 342. (CAFD once ran out of two stations)

This truck is virtually identical to Glenside, PA's 1972 Seagrave open P-cab pump.

Here is a photo of the Seagrave "ladder support" pumper that Owings Mills ran in place of a ladder truck for a period of time. I think the rig may have originally served lansdowne, PA. Photo from my collection, original photographer unknown.
I understand this rig is now privately owned. Great to know it still exists. I live just a couple blocks from Lansdowne, PA its original owner.

Did Baltimore ever run this rig or was it a very similar one?

I don't but if you have access to Walter McCall's book American Fire Engines Since 1900 there is a pic of the officer's side with the original Seagrave cab, Page 363, lower left.

I remember talking to the owner some years back when he had it on display in Baltimore and he told me it's a '67. It originally had an open cab and was one of the first factory-installed diesels Seagrave ever sold. It has a small Cummins 6 and supposedly gets 11 MPG on the highway.
Looking at the size of the exhaust pipe I suspect this was repowered with a diesel. The only diesels I've ever seen in IHC VCO-196's were CAT 3208 V-8's. Anyone have any specifics on this rig? Does it still exist? Thanks.

Here are the details on Clinton's Engine 252:

1967 Ford C-1000/Young open canopy cab 1000 gpm/400 gwt #67-185 R/W/R Engine 252

roto-ray on left side of cab, twin mars lights in Centerville mounts,

Q-2B siren in front bumper, fog lights recessed in front bumper,

air horns on cab doors, canopy seat and rear hose bed windshield,

Akron deck gun over pump, gated rear suction with keystone valve,

repowered with Detroit Diesel 8V-53N engine, whelen commander strobe

light on windshield, sold to Harry Lundberg School, Piney Point,

Maryland in 1977, acquired by Clinton Fire Department in 2004

Tom Shand

Hamburg, New York

If this was repowered with a 2-cycle Detroit, the floor would have to be modified to accept the height of the diesel, with a noticeable hump as a result. Some Canadian C-Series Fords had Detroit Diesels in them but the cabs had to be raised to accept them, giving them the appearance of a 4X4. Still would be very interesting to see a Ford C-Series with a screaming Detroit in it.
