Did Leesburg ever overcome the weight issue with the Ladder Truck? They had it down at Hollywood to show us for idea's on our replacement Ladder.

I know that Mike Sanders, our Loudoun County expert, is away from the computer for a few days, so I'll shed what little light I can.
As of three weeks ago, Leesburg's tiller was still not in service.
Ashburn does have a tower ladder and a quint. The quint is currently out-of-service getting some modifications done to it right now, expect it back in a couple of months.

As of last Saturday, the ladder and one of the Seagrave pumpers were at the dealership. Only one Seagrave pumper was in service. Needless to say, the FFs we spoke to were not pleased about it.

From what a buddy of mine at Ashburn told me that they are making the quint into a straight aerial. The plans call for removing the pump and tank, and adding all of the extrication tools to it from their rescue engine. Hopefully Mike Sanders can fill us in on the complete details but thats what I was told.

Someone asked if Leesburg ever got the weight issues resolved with our new tiller...the answer is yes. It went into service June 23rd, 2008. Since then, it has run 4 working fires and used the pre-piped waterway on 3 of them.
Here's a picture of the tiller and her friends, Engine 601 and Wagon 601.

You are correct. The pump and some plumbing are being removed from the Quint. Additional compartments will be added to hold extrication equipment. It's radio designation will change from "Quint 6" to "Truck 6" once it returns. I am not sure if specific plans have been finalized on response SOP's, but it will operate as an extrication unit on auto accidents and as a spare ladder when Tower 6 is out of service.
Right now, the Tower crew staff's the Rescue Engine when an extrication call is dispatched. When Truck 6 comes back, the Tower crew will do the same with Truck 6.
Our 1996 Pierce Lance rescue engine will be sold - the cost to rehab and fix the current problems with the Pierce does not make it feasible to do so. This is an interesting approach to provide an extrication unit without purchasing a new rescue engine or squad.
Truck 6 should be back in Ashburn in the very near future. I will post photos and additional information.

The older ex- Richmond, VA/DCFD Seagrave is still at Leesburg. My understanding is that it will be sold.
Ian may be able to add some additional information on the plans for this truck.
