A 2012 Pierce Arrow XT 100 foot tiller reconfigured with a longer wheel base tandem rear-axle tractor and shorter trailer. The first of a new type recieved from Pierce after the deliveries of Ladders 1, 4, 10, 9, and 12. The tractor was lengthened to accomodate a larger pollution control system and the trailer was shortened. Noticeable differences on the trailer include elinination one 19.5" cabinet, rearranged top-side diamond plate tool boxes, the ladder rests on taller boom supports allowing for a more horizontal look and has a shorter extension on the tip by thirteen inches. New A/C unit and extra door steps were added.
The tractor wheel base was increased by fifteen inches. The entire length of the truck increased from 59' 9.50" to 59' 11.50".
Ladder 3 reponds out of the new Central Area Station with Engine 6.

I've always been delighted by the way SFD seems very systematic and consistent with its apparatus purchases, at least in terms of timing. Maybe it's just my perception but some companies get new rigs every 10-15 years, and others are always getting hand-me-downs (Engine 34), but its fairly even over time (instead of mass purchases all at once).
On the other hand, SFD has always been all over the place with purchases, from E\-One, ALF, Spartan/Crimson, and now Pierce. All they need next is an order of KMEs to complete their collection of heavy-duty rigs.
The summer I lived in Seattle (2006), the HQ was still in the old station on King Street, Ladder 1 was still the old Spartan/LTI, and they had just received the 2006 Pierce Arrow XT for Rescue 1, which is now refurbished as Unit 99 I believe...?
