I hope I can get some shots before I head back to MN in June. Otherwise I will have to wait until September to shoot the new B.

The HURST tool will not be on the new engine. We wanted a shorter wheelbase and it wasn't used enough to have this engine carry it.

I hate to keep on with the stupid comments, but ladders on the left? Is it to allow for more space in deployment and use in narrower streets and alleys?

Often times, the pump operator is known to throw a ladder or two once he or she has charged supply or attack lines and gotten their pumping operation relatively set in place. Less running around the truck to grab a ladder the better. Makes life a little easier I think !! Just my opinion

Yes, narrow car clogged streets. If you search back far enough in this thread or the Alexandria thread you will find discussion of who first introduced it. When you deal with narrow streets that are parked on both sides if you stop in the middle of the street you take out the entire street and don't leave a lot of room for the pump operator. If you pull toward the curb to give more room on the pump side of the unit then you dump your ladder if you need it on top of a car. If its on the pump side you dump the ladder into clear territory where you can easily access the ladder. You can always go wtih the traditional ladder placement on the officer side recessed but then you lose compartment space.

Nate, there is a LED Roto-ray on it.
Dave, it should be in American Emergency Services (the old Singers), 12 May and the county shops 19 May.

Also if the pumper is close to the curb, trees or parked cars, getting a ladder off the side is difficult if ladders are mounted like these are.
Having them on the operators side, even though it may be in the way sometimes, does allow the removal of ground ladders and not having to fight the other items I mention.
Besides, once the ladder or ladders have been remove from the rack, that ladder system can be returned to the riding position and be out of the way.

Good, it will be there by the time I arrive at the end of May or whenever it is I get there. Looks like teh 27th if I updated my calendar correctly.

Rest in Peace Prince William County Fireman Kyle Wilson - Killed in the line of duty 4 years ago today. At the time of his death Fireman Wilson was operating on Tower Ladder 512 at Box 1209. Several cars in the driveway upon arrival (at just after 0600 hrs) indicated probable victims trapped. Fireman Wilson perished while trying to locate and rescue trapped occupants when fire conditions rapidly deteriorated. Thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters from Prince William County Fire and Rescue.

Exactly the reasons why Dale City did it as well (Second in the NOVA to do so). Plus the ladders are less likely to strike low lying tree branches being on the driver's side. When the two units came in many uneducated comments were made but after a short lesson most understood why.

Many of these photos I'm posting were taken by the late Clark Martin, Jr. Many of you will remember Clark from his career with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, where he rose through the ranks from FF to Deputy Chief. He then retired from there to become the first Fire Chief in Monroe County, Florida (where the Florida Keys are located). Clark eventually lost a 4-year battle with pancretic cancer. Clark had a love for everything firematic, and with the graciousness of his widow Helen, that I can share these with you.
This is from Clark's favorite station to work at, Rescue 426 (Edsall Road - rig has since been replaced and sold)
