[/quote] Rescues trucks in Miami are staffed with Firefighter/Paramedics. They can and will transport critical patients to the hospital, but will request an ambulance for non-critical patients. Rescues respond to all fires and provide fire fighter duties. Ambulances do not function that way. Now years ago, Miami-Dade had a few older rescue trucks assigned only as ambos/patient transports. They called them squads and they were not dispatched to calls. Rather, they responded when called for by a rescue on scene. It replaced the call to the private ambulance company. I don't know if they still do that with budget cuts and all. Hope that clears things up. It is also common on the west coast such as California and Nevada (as well as other areas). I can't say I personally agree with that term how they use it, but it's out there more then we think.
