My best guess is that due to the split tilt cab, the additional air intake(s) are done this way. Also, if your rig is a pre 2007 motor, perhaps theres less air flow requirement allowing the smaller air intakes. I think the split tilt cab and/or the interior cab config is the most likely reason for doing this.
