Mattson Collection <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> [/quote] Ugh. Could be but no Hamerly id tags to look for. Let me check with the former Illinois Hamerly salesman who also said Illinois customers bought a few Welch's that often had Hamerly-like paint jobs. THINGS FROM MY COLLECTION - Guest - 09-16-2012 Broadview may still have that rig..Oak brook had a twin to it and I believe it was a Welch. THINGS FROM MY COLLECTION - Guest - 09-16-2012 The Broadview rig is in fact a Welch. It was originally started and ordered as a Hamerly including the chassis being ordered from New Holland Ford in PA . This was a Hamerly "victim rig" that was started and the chassis delivered to Hamerly when Hamerly closed their doors in 1979. The chassis was said to have been used by Hamerly as a "yard jockey" during the shut down process. The chassis was "rescued" by Broadview and the salesman, my friend from Illinois, was able to have Welch (the other apparatus line he sold at the time) finish the truck for them on the original Hamerly contracted price. They did elect to keep the original Hamerly style paint job. THINGS FROM MY COLLECTION - Guest - 04-16-2013 Quote:Acton, MA Engine # 27 was this 1971 Maxim/Snorkel 1000/500/50'. It was a 1973 F-Model, not a 1971 and IIRC, the boom was a 54 or 55 foot and not a 50 foot. I grew up in Acton and remember the year it was delivered. It was originally delivered with an all-red cab and remained that way until refurbed. In 1975 they purchased another similar Maxim F (E21, the first rig delivered to Acton from the factory in white-over-red) which is now in private hands. It did not have a Snorkel boom though. E27 went to the East Conway FD in New Hampshire where it was designated ES2 and served with another, late '60's Maxim-F from Wareham, Massachusetts. Unknown if it's still there or not |
