Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 02-28-2009 Was the lighting package changed/updated on E413B? Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - stokess - 02-28-2009 Yep it has been, which leads to the saga of the Whelen LED lightbars at FS413...... They were bought new on V-133 (E413) and were some of the first generation Whelen LED bars. When we had the ALF rebuilt, ALF put new Tomar lightbars on it at our request. We originally planned to pay for it and ask for the Whelen bars back for V-114, but ALF just put the Tomar's on 133 at their cost, so I figured we would not get the bars. But I walked into my office at the hall one day and sitting in a couple of long boxes from ALF were these bars. So I asked the shop to put them on V-114 to lower power draw by removing the rotating beacon lights on it and they did, which was what was on it the day it blew up. Well when 7308 came in there was an issue with the front main lightbar that was not working half the time and when it did run it was slow. So I asked if we could move the LED's off V-114 and put them on 7308, which the shop did. So in 6 years these bars have been on 3 different engines in the County. I don't plan on asking for them back when 7308 leaves. Even light bars can have a interesting history. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yourock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 03-01-2009
Mike, V-114 was titled to the County around Christmas 2007 to get what they could out of it as part of the deal that brought 7308 in and ordered V-135. It was a win/win, they got some value out of the deal, we got a working engine and didn't have to worry about getting rid of it. I had heard that they traded it to Downtown in return for services rendered and that Downtown was trying to sell it minus a working motor. For a slower house the rest of the rig was in good shape - pay for a rebuilt motor and it would give someone a lot of good service. V-119 was sold to a VFD in Oklahoma back in 2004 through a broker. They had a flat bed sent for it, we went up to the County dump behind West Ox shops where they built a ramp out of, um, materials available, and one of our AFC's drove it up the ramp onto the flat bed and off it went to OK. There are photos of it being loaded, I'll see if Myke has them electronic and post them here. Funny side story on that rig, there was a typo on the title dating back to delivery in 83 that I was working with the Chief of the VFD that bought it to fix. I had to call him about the issue and while on the phone asked if they had used it yet. He was all excited - oh yes, worked a barn fire the week it got there, flowed 30,000 gallons through it, worked great - is a nice truck, you have anything else you want to sell? Amazing how one man's junk is another man's treasure.......... Shawn
Shawn, I appreciate the updates on the engines at Dunn Loring. Thanks, Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 03-02-2009
7062 - no info. Is that number correct? Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 03-05-2009 Have you seen the new Prince William County DFR Pierce Engine at the training academy, Engine 591? Very nice. Basic, compact, short wheel base. I saw it at Singers a while back and it looked to be a very well spec'd rig.
