My guess here is that whomever is running their facebook account doesnt know much about whats going on. Thats not to say they are wrong, but several reliable sources and people "in the know" have reported that the contrat had been awarded and awarded to KME. That INCLUDES the folks at FAJ whom are VERY reliable and correct 99% of 100% of the time. There is no law or reason that states KME has to say anything to anyone. Youd think they would, but they dont have to. I know that every time I pick up Fire Apparatus Magazine, I read the new orders section and learn about new apparatus orders that I had NO IDEA about, and I live in an area where most orders both upcoming and placed, are reported in SEVERAL places before the ink drys on the contract. Heck, I contacted KME about if they were coming out with a 2013 calendar for sale on their store website. They told me next week....8 weeks ago.
There is more evidence of the 2013 KME calendar than there is of them getting the contract for FDNY. My contact at KME told me that he saw the calendar last week, but it had not yet been released. He wasn't sure when it would be, either. Not sure what the holdup is......

On the FDNY contract, my contact has not heard anything definite. KME does not currently build a split-tilt cab, which the contract calls for. They also have not built a FDNY-style body, but I do know they are working on one. It's possible that they may be building a prototype, with the rest of the contract awarded after its acceptance.

The KME 2013 calendar is out. I have one hanging on my wall. As far as the FDNY contract the dealer by me tells me that they are still working on some items in the contract. So its not 100% a go but looks like it will be. Time will tell. Dave is correct there are some hold ups in the contract like the split tilt cab ect... Stay tuned I am sure KME will be boasting once the contract is awarded if its awarded.

I can attest to the 2013 calendar being released! We got 3 of them, and for some reason there is no picture of an FDNY pumper in it!!

Pretty crazy how my job awards a contract to a company that doesn't build a split tilt cab and other things in the contract. Just like our ferrera ladders no thought really went into the company that was building them and there reputation I guess it's true how the saying goes you get what you pay for

FDNY New pumpers......... - e290l103 - 01-11-2013

funny. I thought the contract for aerials reads sole source. does it not anymore? those trucks you have are actually parts of 3 different companies. HME, Ferrara and Smeal.

sole source No such thing id say alf, Seagrave, and maybe pirsh when they made their own engines but not since they stopped that. If smeal builds the areial for Ferrara and sells them to only ferrarra under a ferrarra product line then its a ferrarra. Sole source is now only a term as to a warrenty 1 person or place to call with problems not like the eairly Pierce/smeal ladders when you called about a problem. Pierce would say call smeal and smeal would say call Pierce.

It is OFFICIALLY announced on their Facebook page and website now. Funny, you can't believe most things on Facebook, but it appears this isn't one of those!
What part did HME contribute?

FDNY New pumpers......... - e290l103 - 01-12-2013

evidently the cab and chassis. if you look on Ferrara's page on the in production trucks, there is an FDNY cab and chassis that has HME transport mud flaps on it, attached as they would be if being driven over the road from one factory to another.

Checking the rig out this morning was a good reminder to come on this thread and talk about how much of a piece of crap Ferrara is.

Damn they must driving the crews and mechanics nuts!

FDNY New pumpers......... - johndanger - 01-12-2013

Half the lights out...aerial PTO won't engage...ladder creeps on its own...three separate times the rig wouldn't start for calls...

FDNY New pumpers......... - RagsCo4 - 01-13-2013

I was looking at the Ferrara Cab photos from the site and saw they have a monitor in the back of the cab. Was wondering what it was for?

Thanks

FDNY New pumpers......... - goon16 - 01-13-2013

It's just another screen from our mdt telling us what due we are where we are going and what type of call and if there are any cids for the building. We have a screen in all the cabs in every rig. The officer has his which is touch screen and also has a keyboard
