Pacific Northwest - Guest - 01-27-2007
Freightliner built only four of these custom-chassis, all in 1961. A pumper (shown in this topic before) and a Snorkel were built for Chehalis/WA, also a pumper and a Snorkel for Renton/WA. The bodybuilder of all 4 units was Westland Fire Apparatus, the successor of Roney Fire Apparatus from Portland/OR.Probably all 4 trucks are long gone.
Juergen - if I remember right, I saw a Fireliner Snorkel at Depoe Bay, OR in 1992. Unfortunately, the rig had some kind of damage, so they could not move it out of the firehouse. As I did not know how rare Fireliners are, I did not take a picture in the station. The Snorkel was fairly short, so I would guess it was a 65' model. Anybody out there who has more info?
