Questions:

Does anyone have any pics of the rear of those Kenworth engines? I'm trying to figure out how they access the rear jump seat area. Also, on the older mid mount trucks, where did the rest of the crew ride since there was no rear jump seat [ that I could see ]? Or did they just stand on running boards?

Thanks in advance!

You can see a picture of one of the old SFD KWs I took earlier in this thread here: http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/index.php?showtopic=3286&p=484174

It shows the access door to the crew area above the pump panel. Keep in mind that there were all kinds of variations on how these rigs were built, since the majority of them were retrofitted with the crew area. Some acessed from the left, some from the right, some from both sides.

The mid mount ladders were still in service when I moved to Seattle in 1989. Back then ladders were staffed with 5. The three firefighters rode standing directly behind the cab and were strapped in with harnesses that connected to the rear of the cab.

Look closely at some of the pictures of Seattle Kenworth TDAs; there is a full height compartment door near the turntable which provided an enclosed standing riding position, not unlike the "phone booths" on the FDNY rear mount Seagrave aerials.

I like the Mack across from it.

I'm fairly certain Engine 20 had one of these Mack pumpers back in the mid- to late-60's......I used to live 3 blocks away from their station on the same street and always saw them flying by on their way to calls.
