What is the standard crew for the squads in Chicago

Chicago Fire Department - firepost - 10-26-2012

They usually run with six people on the Squads but they don't run with less then five. Generally speaking four men usually ride the Squad Van and two ride in the Snorkel.

Thanks for posting the shots from "Englewood",wschrei. They are amongst the busiest companies in the city. It was good to see Truck 51's

new rig and also to see Engine 84.

I understand that Engine 84's old station is still standing.

I personally think that it was a mistake to move Engine 84 and Truck 51 so far east. Old Engine 51 and Truck's 30 station used to be about a block and half south of Engine 84's new house until about 1975. They would have been better off building Engine 84's new house next to their old one. That way they could have kept Engine 61 in service.

The Squad used in Chicago Fire, was the a Chicago rig?

Chicago Fire Department - ffemtwakeman - 10-26-2012

I believe it was. If you do a search of this topic for spare squad, you will find a rig that is painted white over red that was in the spare pool and I think was a hazmat unit at one time. It looks like the same rig, but re-painted. I'm sure one of the local guys can give us more info on it.
