Rumor on this truck was that it was originally part of an order for San Fransisco CA. It was replaced around 1999 with a new KME Excel pumper.
Mussels, Many thanks for the additional Info, it always helps to fill in the Blanks. Don New York State - Guest - 01-13-2010
This rig replaced Fairview's famed Ahrens Fox Quad with the 70ft. midship aerial. It didn't stick around too long and was replaced in the early 1980's by a Pierce Arrow LTI rearmount. A friend of mine who is a paid firefighter in Fairview related that this truck was severly underpowered making it a dog on the hills around the district. Fairfiew had two other Sanford's both engines. The first, a 1965 was rebuilt by Pierce with a 50ft. Telesquirt sometime around 1980 and retired in the mid-1990's. The second was a 1972; it too was rebuilt in the early 1980's with a new E\-One body. I am not aware of how much longer this engine served before being retired. Must have been neat though in the early '70's to see a whole fleet of custom Sanfords <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
You are correct . This apparatus was replaced after only 9 years or so of service. More info to follow on its current location and status. I thought I had heard that one of the Town of Niagara departments was shut down. New York State - foghog333 - 01-25-2010 John: You are correct this department was closed by the local township after the department got into some severe financial trouble. The Spartan/RD Murray pumper was seen in a used fire truck paper and I am unsure where this one ended up. The department also operated a tandem axle E\-One pumper equipped with a mid-mount Teleboom and this rig ended up in a department outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tom Shand Hamburg, New York New York State - Guest - 01-25-2010 OK I am confused. Is this the current NY apparatus thread or is this the Empire State oldies thread? New York State - Guest - 01-26-2010 Does it really matter?Don't be confused..... Then you won't ENJOY the pics.... New York State - Guest - 01-26-2010
OK I am confused. Is this the current NY apparatus thread or is this the Empire State oldies thread?
Its ok, some of the photos I posted in the beginning of the thread are no longer in service, or could be considered for the 'Empire State Oldies' New York State - GA_Dave - 01-26-2010 They were in service when the photos were taken....... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> New York State - Guest - 02-13-2010 Just delivered this afternoon to the Silver Lake Fire Company in Middletown, NY. The area's first Ferrara mid-mount platform. New York State - whb324fd - 02-15-2010 Here's a 197? shot of Latham, NY rigs on the ramp. Can anybody ID any of the rigs? New York State - whb324fd - 02-15-2010 And another of the Plattekill FD. Can anyone ID any of these rigs? New York State - hadg317 - 02-16-2010 The Seagrave engines were all on early 1970's vintage. The one in the middle with the blue top was a 1976 and had stars and bars on the it. The Alf was a 60's midmount 85' (I believe). I don't remember the ward la-france and the bread truck at the end was their rescue. That was replace with a Brockway/Saulsbury heavy rescue a year or so after this picture was taken. I think that this picture was taken at the opening of this station (station 2) on Watervliet Shaker Rd. S.W. Pitts Hose AKA Latham Fire Department is Celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. They will be having a parade sometime in August.
Here's a 197? shot of Latham, NY rigs on the ramp.
