If you do a search of this topic for spare squad, you will find a rig that is painted white over red that was in the spare pool and I think was a hazmat unit at one time. It looks like the same rig, but re-painted. I'm sure one of the local guys can give us more info on it. [/quote] Yes it is the former 5-1-1 haz mat now the reserve haz mat rig. The black is a viynl wrap over the white. It actually was used a few weeks ago at a big fire on the north side when 5-1-1's reguar rig was in the shops. It was photographed at the scene as " Squad 3" Chicago Fire Department - firephoto - 10-28-2012 A few of mine... 4-7-2 Chicago Fire Department - firephoto - 10-28-2012 Try again.. They only lasted about a year there before being taken of service. When they were taken out of service just a little over a year after they went in service the city took 3 of 6 Squads and 3 of 6 Snorkels (not including Squad and Snorkel 7 at O"Hare Field)out of service and replaced them with 3 two piece Squad/Snorkel companies on September 19 1983 which are today's Squad/Snorkel companies that are located in the city proper. |
