Rob, good memory, there actually four of them. The 4th Grumman spent a very short time at E-33 before being sent to E-53 for a majority of it's career. I'm not at home with my rosters, but some of these others floated around quite a bit. I also didn't think that E-82 got thier Grumman until E-112 got thier Pierce Enforcer a couple of years ago.
Yep, you're right Taylor! 112 was a Mack/Grumman, and it did go to 8 after new E-11 came in.

Shoulda remembered that! Another sign of my encroaching senility!

Also while roaming around Southampton County and Environs there-of last week, I drove through Courtland to get something to eat at For Pete's Sake (Formally Thompson's, and for residents of the area who've been around for a LONG time...originally the Fireside Inn...)

I had to drive right past Southampton Station 4 and they had three of their rigs sitting out front posing in the sun, as if maybe they knew someone with a camera might happen by.

Both of the Pierces are Dashes, Engine 42 Is a pumper-Tanker and is equipped with a rear dump.

Engine 41...a former Va Beach rig...was sitting in the lot of a repair garage in town when i drove past, but was parked in a way that would have made getting good shots all nut impossible.

Many thanks,

Bruce

Bruce,

I stopped by Boyce last weekend on my way to Loudoun County to see if the squad was yet in service. It is at Boyce, but still lettered for Goshen. They were estimating about 2-3 weeks to be re-lettered.

It is on my visit list.

A work event took me out to the Eastern Shore of Virginia recently, and I was able to make arrangements to photograph most of Chincoteague's apparatus. Chincoteague is located in Accomack County.

First up is Engine 3-3, a 1994 E\-One Sentry 1250/500/30

s/n 14047

This was a fun ride.....Engine 3-4 which is a 1976 GMC Sierra 6500 V Eight/E-One 750/500. Serial number 258.

Engine 3-6 at Chincoteague is the newest engine - a 2002 International 4400/E-One 1250/1000 with serial number 125990. This replaced the nice Young Crusader that once ran at Chincoteague.

Two ambulances run from the station. 3-2 is a 2005 Ford E/Braun that is white with stripes and got dispatched to a call while I was there. The newest apparatus at Chincoteague is Ambulance 3-1, a 2008 Ford E/Braun and is in the FD's newer color of a deeper red.

Chincoteague has an interesting history and tradition of fund raising - auctioning some wild ponies. Watch for a future article on this FD in an upcoming edition of The Virginia Fire News Magazine.

Now on the far other end of the state of Virginia near the West Virginia border is Clifton Forge. The apparatus of Clifton Forge has been posted earlier in this thread.

Two recent additions have arrived in Clifton Forge.

First up is Ladder 2, a 2002 Pierce Quantum 105'rm 1500/300 with job number 13616. Ex- Natick, Massachusetts. It has all rear steer.

Here is what the "new" Ladder 2 replaced.....Clifton Forge's old 1971 Duplex/Oren with a 75' Grove ladder. It has Oren s/n 2952.

This Duplex/Oren ladder truck was donated by Clifton Forge to the Kazim Shrine Fire Brigade in Roanoke, Virginia.

From the Eastern Shore, to the WV/VA border.....how about near the Virginia and Tennessee border.

Again work took me to the Abingdon, Virginia area in Washington County. I arrived about an hour early for my appointment and dropped by the FD and was happy to find some open bays. I had to battle some weather, but the sun managed to come through the clouds at different times.

Abingdon Engine 201 is this 1995 Pierce Saber 1250/750 with job number 9158.

Abingdon once ran a very unusual ladder truck - a low profile 1979 Oshkosh/Howe/Grumman/LTI 100' 1250/0. They purchased it from Skyland, NC. It is now in the muesum in New York. I am hoping someone will post a photo of it.

Replacing the Oshkosh is Tower 203, a 2006 Pierce Dash 100' 2000/400 and job # 17019.

Abingdon has two very nice antique trucks. Unfortunately, these could not be pulled out but I wanted to show you what I was able to photograph.

The engine in the forefront is a 1928 American LaFrance. The ladder rack was added later and came from a 1950's Dodge. It has serial number L170.

Although you cannot see most of the truck, sitting next to the 1928 ALF is a 1924 Brockway/ALF that was restored in 2001.
