Junk Yard Fire-Baltimore, MD. 3-24-17 - BCFDphotoman - 03-25-2017 Engine 23 finished up training with a couple of other companies in the 6th Battalion yesterday and as they were leaving the area spotted a large column of smoke in the southern portion of the City. They asked Communications if there were any reports of fires in that area. They replied back no and Engine 23 proceeded to investigate. As they were responding calls began coming in reporting brush burning, building fires and other things on fire! When they arrived they found a 30' high pile about 200' foot square of stacked crushed automobiles fully involved in a scrap metal recycling yard in the Fairfield area. They then requested 2 more engines and a ladder truck. By the time they set up and began putting water on it the rest of the Fire Box was filled out. Smoke could be seen from everywhere for miles around!
