Woonsocket, RI ~ A passerby reported smoke from a vacant dwelling on Olo Street in the Fairmount section of the city on May 21, 2013. The caller reported the fire at #46 but the address was actually #246. Firefighters first reported nothing showing in the area. A vehicle pulled up stating that the house down the road was on fire.
Heavy fire was venting out of the rear of the structure as fire apparatus arrived. The house was boarded up and appeared to be vacant for some time. The fire was rolling in the basement and was beginning to extend up to the first floor. A quick attack knocked most of the fire down in about 10 minutes.
Ladder companies vented the roof over the rear step down section of the house finding smoke and heat but no fire. Fire was found in the second floor rear walls as the room was overhauled. A line was put into action hitting the hot spots bringing the fire under control.
