Thought I'd start a City of Phoenix FD Station thread. I'll start a separate one for Phoenix metro fire stations.

This one will probably take a long time to complete, as Phoenix has 57 fire stations spread out over 500+ square miles, and I haven't shot most of them yet.

I originally wanted to do them in numerical order, but that won't be possible, so I'll try to do them geographically, starting with the west side battalions.

First up:

Station 60 - 2405 W. Townley Ave (near I-17 and Dunlap Ave) - Battalion 8

Two engine house, home of Engines 960 and 910, and Rescue 60. There is no Engine 60 right now (that's why Engine 910 is running there). This is a beautiful station, equipped with great bi-fold bay doors.

Phoenix Fire Station 33 - 2409 W. Cactus Road - Battalion 4

Engine 33, Ladder 33, Ladder Tender 33, Brush 33 and Rescue 33

This station is pretty typical of the older Phoenix station design - I'm pretty sure this was a 2-bay station that was added on to later.

Phoenix Fire Station 42 - 3246 W. Greenway Road - Battalion 4

Engine 42, Rescue 42, Rescue 942

This station is the next generation design after Station 33

Phoenix Fire Station 50 - 20225 N. 35th Ave - Battalion 4

Engine 50, Ladder 50, Ladder Tender 50, Rescue 50, Utility 50

Early-Mid 2000's design (most stations in the 50's are this type)

Nice shots! I always loved the arcitecture out there, the way it blends into the environment. Have you seen Station 72 (I believe) up by Cave Creek? Last time I was there it was still under construction, I was hoping to see it finished.

Thanks for the response. I do think the desert has a certain beauty of it's own. I haven't seen 72's yet, but will get up there...eventually. I think they're staffing it with Engine 929 (an adaptive response engine) and Squad 29.

Now that I think about it, I might have to take a road trip northeast tomorrow morning...

No worries, whenever you get to it. Your right though, the desert does have it's own beauty, I sure loved being out there.

Thanks for saying so - The sun was in the worst possible position, but I think it turned out OK.

Thanks - I'll get them all eventually. I had hoped to get up northeast today, but as usual I had 27 other things to do <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Unsure' /> . I'll try again next week.

What Fire Houses have Fire Poles in Phoenix? How many are left, do they build any two story fire houses any more in Phoenix? Thanks for the information.

Rick

Hi Rick - Not really any two story stations any more that I know of, except maybe a very few in congested downtown areas (I'm thinking of Tempe Station 276, which is right downtown - It's two story, but I don't know if they have any poles). Even large Central-Phoenix stations are one-story (i.e. Stations 1, 4 & 8, for example).

Most stations are built on large parcels, with drive-through bays, since there's plenty of land available. If I recall, Goodyear Station 181 has a pole, but it's really only for convenience. No living quarters are on the second floor, only a workout room off one side of the bay.

Gilbert Fire Station 251 has 2 poles with glass windows so kids

can see them using them. When they reocate Station 257 to a new station,

Warner rd & Copper rd, it will be 2 stories due to the small lot size and probally

will have poles too. Future Phoenix station 55 is going to be 2 floors so they might have poles

18's is two story with poles to slide down!

Went on another road trip today - West Phoenix/Maryvale (i.e. don't go there after dark) areas.

Station 15 - 4730 N. 43rd Ave - Battalion 3

Heavy industrial/commercial area - Station is on 43rd Ave (a very busy street) with mostly warehouses and industrial buildings, just south of Grand Avenue/Camelback Road. Really hard to photograph.

Engine 15, Rescue 15

Station 25 - 4010 N. 63rd Ave - Battalion 3

Again, not a great neighborhood but more residential than 15's.

This station is really long and I didn't want to stop and get out, so I just shot the bays.

Engine 25, Engine 925, Squad 44, Rescue 25, Battalion 3

Fire Station 40 - 3838 N. 83rd Ave. - Battalion 3

A couple of miles west of 25's, same general type of older residential/commercial. For anyone familiar with Phoenix, 25's and 40's (along with Stations 24 and 44) are part of the Maryvale area, considered to be one of the first "tract" communities from the 50's.

Engine 40, Rescue 40

Station 54 - 9820 W. Campbell Ave. - Battalion 3

This is the furthest west station in the City of Phoenix. The City of Avondale is just to the west and Glendale is just to the north. Although it's only a couple of miles west of Station 40, the area is much newer and better.
