It operated at a Service Truck until being replaced. The Township sold the truck to the First Aid Squad who made it a Tactical Support Unit. Gary can chime in as he helped to referb the rig for the Squad. It is currently for sale. Hamerly Custom Productions - Guest - 12-18-2011 And In my humble opinion, the best looking Hammerly on the Block. Old Myerstown Goodwill Lebanon County Engine 30-1 1978 Hamerly Custom Productions - b9208 - 12-19-2011
was this a city service ladder truck before its conversion to a squad
No, as a matter of fact it only carried a 12' combination ladder. Carried salvage equipment - covers, runners, submersible pumps, cascade system, haz-mat supplies and foam concentrate, floodlights and 15 Kw generator, plus ladder company handtools and saws before the tower ladder was purchased. It also was the only rig when purchased in 1976 that members could ride and "pack up" on the way to calls, in the open air bench seat in the pack. Nothing like riding back there when it was sleeting or pouring rain....but at that time the two first out pumpers had two door cabs and no jumpseats. Has a 534 gas motor and a five speed trans with split rear...sort of an art to get the most out of it, especially on hills. In its second life, the rig was used to carry trench and structural collapse equipment - the rear bench was removed and that area stored trench panels, wales and shoring lumber under the custom tarp we had made. "Re-furbed" in-house for less than $12,000 - served as the collapse rig from 1997 until December 2010 - not a bad investment since it only cost the Squad a dollar when purchased from the township. As John mentioned, currently for sale. Thanks, Gary Hamerly Custom Productions - Guest - 12-19-2011 HARBORCREEK F.C. ERIE COUNTY PA |
