I asked them once why they sit on the edge of the boat and fall backwrds into the water.

As a diver myself i have been asked that a few times. I prefer to step off then backwards rolls. Got caught by my weightbelt on the ropes of the boat bent will my feet over my head... Never fun.

The LAPD Underwater Dive unit is a branch of the LAPD Air support bureau and I beleive is housed at Piper tech in downtown.
