Recently purchased this 1972 Mack CF685 1250/500 from the City of York, PA. According to the History of the York Fire Department book this is the first diesel engine purchased by the city. It is also the first non-American LaFrance purchased by the city in 40 years.

It was originally assigned to the Lincoln Fire Company as Engine 9. More recently it served as Engine 5 out of the Goodwill Fire Station on E. Market St.

Got it home last week and hope to get it off to storage this coming weekend if the weather holds.

As you can see it has no equipment at all. So lots of stuff to buy.

As for the body there are two spots on either side of the jump seats were it is rusted through. The rest seems to be in good shape. It runs great. Can't wait for spring to get it out and start pumping with it.

1972 Mack CF/91 JC Moore 1250/500

Tom Bair Photo.

I believe this slide was taken at JC Moore's shop just after refurbishment.

I had photographed this rig myself when it was in reserve status. Glad to see it went to a good home!

If you find any shots of the officers side let me know. Looking to see what equipment was mounted where.

Thanks,

Great looking rig, Chuck. Hope you find it to be as much fun as I have with my Mack.

Any word on who bought the ladder?

1972 Mack CF 1250 GPM - Guest - 12-31-2009

I don't know who but I was told by a city Chief it went to Lancaster County somewhere.

Got some work done on the old girl.

Got the muffler removed and the exhaust run out the side of the truck. Also got the mud flaps mounted.

Had a great time at pump primers in Harrisburg. Pumped for about 3 hours. No issues.

On the way back to storage though, the air line going to the drivers side windshield wiper either broke or came loose. Had enough air to get it back in storage. So we need to work on that before our next parade.

Good job Chuck! Let me know how you make out with the air line. Noticed on the videos of the PPP parade that my officers side mini bar wasn't working. It worked the night before, so I am going to mess with it tomorrow.

Beautiful job on that rig!! For the record there is at least one other ex-York FD rig that's been preserved. It's in (of all places) The Netherlands. There are several videos of it on YouTube. It's a 1973 ALF Century Series pump. It has a Detroit Diesel 6V-53 in it with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Q is missing from it. But they've taken it all over their country on truck jaunts and it still looks factory fresh.

The city sold a 63 ALF around the same time I bought mine that went oversees. Probably the same one. Fro what I heard the pump was shot though.

Chuck--It looks great--Q: is the deck gun piped in or do you need to lay hose ????? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hail.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hail' />

1972 Mack CF 1250 GPM - Guest - 02-17-2011

Thanks.

Right now it has no deck gun. During the refurb they prepiped for a deck gun. My plan is to cap that off and put a deck gun back on the roof of the cab. As soon as I locate one!

Acquired this picture at an auction. Shows my engine from around 1975 next to the canteen truck from York City station 9.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Maxim engine that Engine 9 used to run, it was a 1970's Maxim F pumper... I imagine it is long gone now... I never managed to get a picture of it, everytime I went there the people working weren't really interested in pulling it out or taking it anywhere for pictures. It was a nice looking Maxim!
