1330 hrs: Suffern FD & Tallman FD with an automatic F.A.S.T. Team requested for a reported basement fire at 70 East Maltbie Ave. Not a whole heck of a lot to see when I got there, but some nice close up shots & overhaul photos. Great stop by Suffern FD !

Additional photos can be viewed on my website as usual:

I believe that this is an automatic dispatch for another company to act as the R.I.T. on reported structure fires.

He wrote, " ... an automatic F.A.S.T. Team requested ..."

The point of my question is if it's AUTOMATIC why was it REQUESTED.

Wouldn't it be better to let the original poster answer?

Yes, automatic mutual aid. Tallman is Suffern's automatic mutual aid F.A.S.T. Team for reported structural fires. My Department doesn't have a ladder truck, so for any reported structural fires we have an automatic mutual aid ladder truck from West Nyack & F.A.S.T. Team from Valley Cottage. Not every department in the County does it this way, but more and more are going the automatic mutual aid route. My personal opinion is that it's a great idea. Why wait to pull up to a working fire to call a F.A.S.T. Team, might as well get them on the road A.S.A.P., you can always cancel them.

I give up. Apparently you people don't understand English very well.

The question is - - - -If it's automatic, why did it need to be REQUESTED?

If you can think of some way I can make that question clearer, please tell me.

I don't know. Auto aid here is still requested by my department's dispatch as soon as we're toned out. My dispatch only handles us, no other departments, so the request must be made by phone to another dispatch center. We're working on a county wide dispatch, but with all of the red tape and B.S., I'm not holding my breath.

Then why are you answering? Please don't hijack threads.

In Boston on a stuck box for fire, confirmed or unconfirmed, a trained RIT company is assigned by Fire Alarm, Always. In our metro area the smaller towns will request a RIT/FAST team if it is a confirmed structure fire from one of the surrounding communities.

BACK IT DOWN A NOTCH!!!!!!!!

If anyone could be accused of hijacking, it would be you.

There was a request for a FAST Truck (the TRUE name for RIT by the way), which triggered an automatic assignment of specifically trained personnel and equipment. The term automatic refers to the dispatcher not having to make the decision about whom to send, not that it's an automatic response for the incident.

Why is it more and more of our forums (here and elsewhere) are turning into a perpetual p@ssing match?

Good God.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for that response. I don't have a dog in the fight, but the gentleman that kept asking questions appeared to be over the top a little. It made sense to me, but who am I.

Thanks for posting the photos. Good work.

I think some people are just frustrated English teachers and feel they have to correct EVERYTHING!

Nice job on the pics, by the way.

Agreed ! Stop reading so much into what people type ! If it's automatic, they are still requested, just on a predetermined basis ! Sheesh !

Does Suffern still have their white Seagrave tiller, or have they replaced it...that rig's a classic!

I disagree. Automatic and requested have two entirely different meanings. I was simply asking for clarification.

Ed, you are from the Boston Metrofire area, so you should be familiar with Metrofire's 10-alarm running cards. That's automatic. If someone asks for a special piece of apparatus not on those running cards, that's requested.
