This would be my last shot of the trip.  I had some other stuff planned, but it didn't work out.  Apparently the Boston bombings had the military folks at the Savannah Airport wetting their pants........

Did Isle of Hope get rid of the Mack CF former Savannah engine?

No, it was still there, but the guy on duty refused to move it.

This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 04-25-2013

Today was another beautiful day in Georgia, so I made my third attempt to photograph the other two Pierce Arrow XT pumpers in Cobb County that were delivered with Engine 8 back in the fall.  I also needed a shot of one of the four Dash 2000 pumpers they got back in 2006 and 2007 that I somehow had missed when they were new.  Engine 1 would be my first stop, but the station sits "in the woods" and there wasn't a sunny spot big enough to put it in.  The Captain told me that they were going to do hydrants in an hour and that I could follow them until we found a spot to take the shot.  To kill time, I headed to Engine 7, which I knew has a sunny apron in the mornings.

While talking to the driver of Engine 7, he asked if I had shot the new Sutphens they recently put in service.  It was the first I'd heard about them, so I asked where they were and found out that they are Trucks 4 and 22.  He also told me about a new air truck at Station 27.

By now it was time to return to Station 1.  I followed them into a wooded residential neighborhood where they did several hydrants before we found a spot in the sun.  The basic difference between Engine 1 and previous deliveries is the change from the Velocity chassis to the Arrow XT.

Next was Station 2.  The house was empty when I got there, but there was a County PD unit in the parking lot.  I asked if he had seen which way the pumper had gone, as I guessed that they might be out doing hydrants.  He told me that they were at the Training Center, so off I went.  Station 2 is an older building and not very deep.  Engine 2 requires a shorter rig than the standard spec the County uses.  The cab is not as long and there is a much smaller front bumper extension, but otherwise the rig is like the rest.

On the same day that I shot the Cobb County rigs, I also shot a few Cherokee County rigs, but waited to post them until I was able to get some information on two of them.  Twenty five years ago, Cherokee County was protected by about 15 separate fire departments, mostly volunteer.  Today, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is a mostly career department operating from 22 stations.  The Cities of Canton and Woodstock still maintain their separate identities, with two stations each, but fall into the County's numbering and dispatch systems.  I have photographed many apparatus in Cherokee County in the past, but needed to update a few newer rigs.  The delay in posting was caused by the two rigs built by Southern Fire (Jasper, GA) which had no identification on them whatsoever.  It took this long to get the information, since they were purchased by the former "Circle Five VFD", not the County.
