Hey Dave, is this thing anywhere near my neck of the woods? I'd love to shoot it myself one day. What's access like?

Quote:This rig was Ex-Welcome,NC Engine 4.......Our driver also mentioned this one served Tarrboro,NC as well.

Thanks, Micah, I recall this being mentioned, but never wrote it down, then couldn't remember the details. Are you planning on posting anything from this trip or should I just continue on?

What do you consider "near"??? It located just south of Salisbury. About 40 miles north of Charlotte on I-85. I think Messner said it was about a three hour drive for him. Typical military security, unless you have a contact. I have a contact! It might be best to wait a while, they are supposed to be getting one of the matching Oshkosh/Pierce tankers being built. I plan to go back to shoot that one too.

Before I post any more shots from this trip, here are the rigs I shot several years ago at the Rowan County Airport. This was back before you didn't need Congressional approval to enter a military installation!

Continue on if you want. It will be Wednesday at the earliest before I can get my photos developed.

I didn't write down the year or F number for this one, did anyone else?

From Bostian Heights we went to Rockwell. First stop was the Rockwell Rural FD.

Did anyone get the New Lexington number off this one? I missed it.

Rescue 71, Rockwell Rural FD, Rockwell, NC

1971/1985/1987 Kenworth K-100/Saulsbury

According to the info I was able to piece together, this rig started out as a 1971 Kenworth/Swab with the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad in Maryland. In 1982, BCCRS bought a new Kenworth/Saulsbury to accompany it. In 1985, the '71 rig was sent to Saulsbury for a refurb, where the cab was replaced by a 1985 cab and a new Saulsbury body, matching the one on the 1982 rig, replaced the Swab body. This rig was delivered in 1987. Can anyone confirm or correct this?

This rig was not there the day we visited, this shot is from several years ago. To make them match, the 1995 Spartan/KME was fitted with an "F.M.C." logo in the grille.

This rig began life as a USAF P-10. It was assigned to the ANG unit at Douglas Airport in Charlotte. When retired, it went to the NC Forestry division and ended up in Rockwell in 1987. Rockwell Firefighters added the pump and tank.
