How can you tell that is a Typhoon? I know you said it has Cyclone II grill but If I shot that I would mistake it for being Cyclone II. Any advice?

None whatsoever!  I only know because the guys there told me.  The grille was changed to match the platform.  Since E\-One no longer uses the oval nameplates to identify their various chassis, it is impossible to tell a Typhoon with a Cyclone II grille from a true Cyclone II.  The cab shells are identical.

My next stop was Calabash.  They are a combination FD with two stations.  Jon and I visited Station 1 last year, but didn't get to Station 2 because it isn't staffed.  I was able to talk one of the guys into meeting me there and pulling out the rigs.  The only "new" rig at Station 1 was their used brush truck that I posted in the "Once is not enough" thread.

For many years, this second-hand rig ran as Engine 1279 in Calabash, with magnetic signs covering the gold leaf from the original owners.  Today, it serves as a parade and publis relations apparatus.

Cool shot Dave! I've been wanting to shoot that Coxsackie WLF for a while. Do you know where Calabash's LTI Oylimpian (X: Apex,NC) go to?

Also Engine 1270 is X:Arlington,NY.

I didn't know they ever had the Olympian from Apex.  Last year at Calabash, we shot a 1998 Cyclone II 75' quint.

I am a smidge-bit late in joining this discussion but I am curious....could this truck be built without a pump/tank to increase compartment space, possibly making it a little more appealing to a larger audience?  I am sure it could, but I guess you never know...

EDIT -----> Oh, for the love of pete.  I messed up and meant to include the discussion for the Pierce Ascendant.

Micah I have the old Calabash truck going to Saybrook Arrowsmith, IL.

Yes, the Ascendant is available as a straight aerial and that would give it a lot more storage space, but would be of no use to my FD.  I can think of several places where a short wheelbase 107' rearmount straight aerial would be the perfect rig.  The Ascendant will also be available with Pierce's all-wheel steering.

I made three stops on the return trip back home, adding two rigs at each.
