You would have to ask Billy but I think he got that from your Chief when he was made an Honorary Chief (Not sure what level Chief) for his work at ground zero.

Well, if he was made an F.D.N.Y. Honorary Chief, maybe her should wear it on his Honorary Chiefs uniform (should he have one), and not just any FD uniform.
It does mean a lot to those who were there that day, and not just a novelty to wear around the Country. Again, JMO.

You are absolutely correct. Akron valves were placed on wagons in 1991 and, for a period, pumpers responded only to Box Alarms (DC nomenclature for a full response). The use of any 2-piece company was discontinued starting (I believe) February 1, 1992 and the valves were used, per SOP, exclusively . I dated the picture wrong. Egan was driving; maybe he remembers. Somebody in the 4th Battalion had His & Her Hahns during that period – either Engine 4 or Engine 11.

Speaking of Engine 11…
In 1985 the Apparatus Division paint shop began turning out apparatus in the new “Stars and Bars” scheme. This pumper appears to be one of the three 1982 Hahns. The 1982 model was transitional. The previous fourteen Hahn wagons had Circle-D lamps mounted on telescoping poles whereas the ’82 models had the new Nightfighter spot/flood lights. Subsequent Hahns had light bars in lieu of the rotating beacon.
Note the shop’s elegant billboard proclaiming “If we can’t fix it, it ain’t broke”, incorporating a Hahn as their emblem. At the time of the photo the DCFD was running twenty-two Hahn pumpers and three Hahn ladder trucks.

Kevin, I can't recall the name of the clown at the shops around the early 80's. Who supposedly made the statements to 1) Bring the new diesel to the shop if it isn't running right, we'll give it a tune up and 2) don't worry about the transfer valve being broken, just run it in the stage it's in...
I'm drawing a blank on that one. He was no doubt not the sharpest tool in the shed. Then again who could be under TR? LOLOL

I don't believe 30 Engine ever had a Pierce. I think the one 5 Engine has came from 33 Engine.
