Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021

Those that have followed my postings know that I picked up a new camera in April.  Of course, now that I have it, I haven't caught a fire scene worth shooting.  I ventured out today and shot a few different scenes with lenses that I've added since picking up the camera.  I tried many different settings and figured I'd share the results.

For those that haven't seen my other posts, the camera is a Sony Alpha A7 III, full frame 24.2MP Mirrorless Digital Camera

First up, moving targets with the Sony FE 24-240 f/3.5-6.3 lens. I picked this up used for about half the price of a new lens.

I also picked up a Tamron 20mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M 1:2 Lens  for shooting wider scenes.  These shots are also cropped for 8x10 printing

USS Massachusetts at sunset.

1/40 sec. f/11, ISO 100, it's a prime lense, so everything from here will be at a focal length of 20.0mm

I moved back to Providence for some skyline shots.  These are uncropped and you can see the dropoff at the corners.

1/60 sec., f/8, ISO 8000

The last shot from this adventure is a close cropped 8x10 print size, I just thought the bird and gondola were cool.  You can see some grain appearing in the image at this tight of a crop and the high ISO.

1/60 sec., f/8, ISO 20000

I am more impressed with this camera the more I use it.  Now, if I can only be available when there are fires.
