Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 Those that have followed my postings know that I picked up a new camera in April. Of course, now that I have it, I haven't caught a fire scene worth shooting. I ventured out today and shot a few different scenes with lenses that I've added since picking up the camera. I tried many different settings and figured I'd share the results. For those that haven't seen my other posts, the camera is a Sony Alpha A7 III, full frame 24.2MP Mirrorless Digital Camera First up, moving targets with the Sony FE 24-240 f/3.5-6.3 lens. I picked this up used for about half the price of a new lens. T. F. Green Airport, approach to runway 23, between 1730 and 1900 hours. Photos are cropped for 8x10 printing Canadian CRJ, tail ECGF. 1/1600 sec., f/11, ISO 400, focal length 120.0 mm RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 Embrarer ERJ 175, Tail N411YX, American Eagle Livery, operated by Republic Airlines 1/1250 sec. f/11, ISO 400 154.0mm focal length RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 Mitsubishi CRJ-200LR, Tail N442AW, United Express livery, operated by Air Wisconsin. 1/1600 sec. f/11, ISO 400, 120.0mm focal length RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 I also picked up a Tamron 20mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M 1:2 Lens for shooting wider scenes. These shots are also cropped for 8x10 printing USS Massachusetts at sunset. 1/40 sec. f/11, ISO 100, it's a prime lense, so everything from here will be at a focal length of 20.0mm RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 Roughly the same shot as above, but with 1/100 sec. f/2.8, ISO 800 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 USS Joseph P. Kennedy, 1/125 sec., f/2.8, ISO 800 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 I moved back to Providence for some skyline shots. These are uncropped and you can see the dropoff at the corners. 1/60 sec., f/8, ISO 8000 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-20-2021 Roughly the same shot, 1/60 sec. f/8, ISO 20000 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-21-2021 A third, 1/20 sec. f/8.0, ISO 800 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-21-2021 1/60 sec., f/8, ISO3200 RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-21-2021 This is the above shot, cropped to 8x10 print size with the corners cropped out RE: Experimenting with the new camera - edburke - 06-21-2021 The last shot from this adventure is a close cropped 8x10 print size, I just thought the bird and gondola were cool. You can see some grain appearing in the image at this tight of a crop and the high ISO. 1/60 sec., f/8, ISO 20000 I am more impressed with this camera the more I use it. Now, if I can only be available when there are fires. |
