Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - Guest - 05-26-2015 At 1516 Engine 2, Truck 2 and Engine 30 were dispatch to an accident on Marine Drive with someone pinned in. This 10 mile stretch of Marine Drive is a 2-lane road along the Columbia river. Over the years it has been the scene of many serious accidents; some fatalities and some vehicles into the river. This year I have covered at least four, including 3 fatals with cars going into the river. Overall scene. The car barely visible on the right in the distance was also involved. ![]() This car was headed in the other direction. They saw the badly damaged vehicle heading for them in the wrong lane. They turned into the shoulder, hit the grass and spun around. The 2nd car struck the rear with minor damage. ![]() Working to free the driver who was talking to the firefighters. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the trainees (black helmets). ![]() Removing the roof. ![]() FF Rose talking to the driver. ![]() Driver was freed after about 20 minutes. ![]() ![]() The aftermath. ![]() ![]() ![]() Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - hank - 05-26-2015 Good photos, Dick! tHANKs Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - BFD190 - 05-26-2015 Wow dick.. awesome set. Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - senatobiafire704 - 05-26-2015 Nice! Those last few images really show the difficulty of the extrication!! Super job by all! Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - willman940 - 05-26-2015 Great set Dick, do you know if they attacked the drivers door from the jamb or the hinge side? Also what did they use the Air chisel for? And if I could ask one more question what did the anchor the ram too for the dash roll near the B post? I'm not trying to criticize tactics, I'm just curious for my own knowledge. Thanks either way, John Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - Guest - 05-26-2015 It took me about 10 mins. to get there and the doors were already off. You can see them in the first photo. In the 3rd photo up from the last one there is a piece marked T2 at the bottom of the ram. I think it was a type of clamp. I retired in 1985 so some of these new tools are foreign to me. I should ask more questions. ![]() Head-on collision - Portland 5-25-15 - chief60 - 05-27-2015 Excellent shots, I like the aftermath shots to see what they had and how they accomplished the extrication. Willman940 as Dick mentioned, the clamp they used is a Hurst quick kick ram support.
