Kentland FD: SQ 33 lost in a fire - upstatefire31 - 04-06-2015

Saw this on FB today, anyone have the full story feel free to post.    Sq33 and another unit from a MA dept were lost during a fire today, they say a wind shift pushed the fire at the rigs.

The fire was in a roofing supply warehouse in Ritchie (Prince George's County, Maryland)  Apparatus was setting up behind the building and the wind changed direction pushing the fire over the apparatus.  Kentland's Rescue Engine and West Lanham Hills Engine were overrun by the fire destroying both units.  Water supply for these units was in the process of being set up, all they had to operate with was tank water.  When this ran out they had to abandon the positions.

Saw that one fire fighter had a small burn on his leg, but other than that no injuries. It sucks that the truck got burnt, but that can be replaced. Good news is that all members went home.

The new Dodge is fine, I only know of the Ford as far as Mini's go for them.

I was looking for more info on the mini and found a link on the builders website. Not a bad little rig. Hope it serves them well!

Unfortunately it wont let me post the link.

Is this go fund me to replace the engine? Didn't they have insurance

Kentland FD: SQ 33 lost in a fire - countryboy88 - 04-09-2015

Taken directly from the departments facebook page

" Some people have asked "What about the insurance". The insurance is going to fall short of replacing our Rescue Engine by about 60%. We are a 501c-3 non profit fire department and we own all our apparatus. We receive minimal funding from the county (ie maintenance, fuel and partial insurance). We raise funds through grants, merchandise sales and community outreach. Through these efforts and the dedication of our members we are able to continue providing the citizens and visitors of Prince George's county superb Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical services.

Thank you for your support! "

Thank you for posting this. Like most departments they should have a choice to pick full replacement value or what they have. I would think they should change or think about changing the insurance coverage on the apparatus. I hope they reach the funding goal. I would think they need to raise $400,000.00 to $500,000.00.

Kentland FD: SQ 33 lost in a fire - npfd801 - 04-10-2015

I am not Monday morning quarterbacking in any way whatsoever, but we just in the last couple years changed our insurance to agreed value coverage for all of our vehicles.  It didn't change the premium drastically, but does insure that if we total an engine or anything else we will get enough money to buy one in today's dollars.  We look at these amounts annually to make sure we don't need to adjust them.  I'm constantly astounded by the fact that our 2006 engine was barely over $300,000 when purchased and would be at least $400,000 now.

I strongly encourage you to ask about this if you're able, if you're on a department.

They better sell alot of the Tower Ladder collectables lol but on a serious note, they may have to look into maybe a used truck for now if they cant get the full amount, Used isnt to bad if it can buy them some time to get a brand new one.
