Canada's capital has been on a major apparatus upgrade over the past few years.
A quick lowdown, there are 45 stations, 29 staffed with career members (4 of those outlying stations also have a volunteer contingent) and 16 volunteer stations. Additional stations are in the planning stages, for rapidly growing areas of the city. There are about 950 career members and 400 volunteers. The city has a population of about 1,000,000, that grows significantly during the week. EMS is run by a separate city service, however, fire does respond to medical emergencies.
There are a number of stations that are part of the Special Operations Division, including water/ice, high angle, technical, collapse, trench, and confined space rescue, and a level 3 hazmat team.
There are 9 districts, and the stations are numbered accordingly, eg. District 1 has station 11, 12, and 13, District 2 has stations 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25.
Pump 21 is one of 12 new KME 1250/600 pumpers recently purchased in 2013. These pumpers were the first to be designed by a new apparatus committee, and are a major change from previous apparatus. Station 21 is one of 2 stations that provide hazmat services.

Ladder 24 is a 2003 E\-One Cyclone 1750/300/95 foot, that has the distinction of being the only rig in the entire FD fleet with a Detroit Diesel motor.

Station 24 is the primary hazmat response station, and as such, is equipped with 2 hazmat units. Hazmat 24 is a 1999 GMC/Almonte. This truck will be replaced in 2015 with a newly ordered Spartan/EVI tandem axle hazmat truck. As Ottawa is one of 3 provincial Level 3 hazmat response teams, this truck could respond anywhere within Ontario for a serious hazmat/CBRN incident.

A specialized part of Station 24 complement is IHAT 24 (Initial Hazard Assessment Team) This truck carries highly specialized detection equipment, and is designed for low visibility response, hence the lack of graphics. On many of the CBRN responses that a national capital fire service would respond to, many are deemed low priority, so this vehicle fits into that operation.

Pump 32 covers an urban area with high rises with commercial and industrial properties, however, it also has a very large rural area that it covers, so they are equipped with this 2008 Spartan/Carl/Thibault 1250/2500. This is one of 11 such apparatus in the city fleet.

POD 47 is a 2012 Freightliner platform on demand truck, one of 2 in the city fleet. Station 47 is one of 2 trench and confined space rescue stations. There are a number of PODS available, for specific needs depending on the situation. Typically, the shoring POD is kept loaded on the truck.
